Not sure if this is the final signing of season 2019/20 (the season that never happened) or the first signing of season 2020/21 (the season that we hope will happen) but we are delighted to announce that we have strengthened the Boot Room with the signing of Gavin Saxby who is our new goalkeeping coach.
Gavin came through the Alfreton Town Academy into the first team whilst also representing Great Britain University’s And Colleges National team for 2 years
After leaving Alfreton after 3 years went on to have a short spell at Tamworth and then went on to represent Gresley, Shepshed, Belper, Rainworth and Lincoln United at Evostik level
He playied for Shirebrook Town in the NCEL – in a player coach role which saw them in the play off places – before he hung up his gloves.
He is Level 2 Goalkeeping coach & is working towards UEFA B licence & is currently working along side the Academy Goalkeeping Coach at Mansfield Town FC developing the youth team goalkeepers.
He is also the son of Luton Town legend Mike Saxby (thank you to Ken Whitehead for that little snippet!!)
The Gaffer said “Having held talks with Damo, Kyle and Jordan I’m pleased to announce Gavin Saxby as our goalkeeping coach for the up-and-coming 20-2021 season. Sax is experienced especially at Northern Premier League level & he’s keen to develop his coaching skills. Sax will add another dimension to our excellent management team. Those that know him will understand what his characteristics are and he is a fantastic addition to our changing room environment. He will help develop and improve our young and talented goalkeepers we have already at the football club. He’s been looking to get on the ladder and I’m delighted that he’s chosen Frickley Athletic FC”
