Recap
So the game was full of incident – unfortunately hardly any of it to do with matters relating to action on the pitch. These games are usually blood & thunder but this was a fairly dreary affair between 2 average teams with Worksop being the better team in the first half & the Azzurri being the better team in the 2nd half. Worksop had 2 good chances & scored 1, we had 3 good chances & scored none – that’s the story of our season
Could we put out a settled team? Course not, more reshuffling was necessary as Frecks brought in James Matthews from Carlton & Arun Jones from Lincoln United – but being us, we lost another player to COVID (Kegan this time) & Ben Morris picked up an injury early in the first half. That’s become standard for us recently – but no point bellyaching about it, we just get on with it
And over to a Scientist for his thoughts:
An early goal followed by a defensive display by Worksop Town saw them take the spoils in this local derby. The visitors hit the post with a cross as early as the 6th then took the lead in the 7th when Alex Starcenko crossed for Liam Hardy to tap in. Frickley came into it a bit more after that but opportunities were at a premium until the half hour mark when Josh Chapman stopped a Hardy shot with his legs. Brad Wells carried it to Worksop with a galloping run but couldn’t get his shot off. Then just before half time Worksop’s Seb Malkowski flapped at a Tyler Williams free kick but made amends as he palmed Nyle Blake’s volley over the bar. The second half started in a similarly tight manner until just before the hour when Vaughan Redford hit the post from a narrow angle for Worksop. Moments later Frickley had a chance at the other end but Michael Hollingsworth could only fire wide. With 15 minutes to go Blake broke clear for the hosts and his lob beat the keeper but drifted agonisingly wide. There was a long delay near the end due to an injury to Malkowski and sub striker Ben Tomlinson donned the gloves for Worksop. However, The Tigers hung on for the 3 points.
Back to me – again, no lack of effort or endeavour from the Frickley boys, they gave it everything but it was another blank from us at the business end
WEBMASTER MOTM – strong performance in midfield by Holli & Big Dev did well (playing in midfield & helping out defensively), shout out to Nyle too (he scores on another day & it’s a different game. But I’m giving the Glitterball to a great debut performance from James Matthews – looked very assured & I’m ready to see some more of him in a blue / green shirt
TWITTER POLL MOTM – thanks to everyone who voted & backed up the above – James took it narrowly from Big Dev & Nyle & Holli
371 through the gate, thank you for your support
We are at home to Stockton next Saturday – the boys will be doing everything to get a win for you so please come & support them
