Recap

Driving to meet Ken to go to the match I was listening to Everything But The Girl

Watching the game with Ken we saw Everything But The Goal!!

A vastly improved performance from Saturday, the Greens put in a very good shift – but bad luck, bad decision making in the box & bad officiating saw us go down 1 nil to Lincoln.

Frecks (in his 300th game as manager) had to give the squad a bit of a tweak – we were already without the injured Frecks Jnr & Joe West, the suspended Burns Snr & the poorly Reiss Harrison & then add to that Wells (K) who had a back spasm & the cupboard is quite bare. Ben Bottomley made his debut in goal & new to the ranks was Ollie Brown, a young defender who we have signed on loan from Guiseley.

We started off well & Wells (B) pulled an early chance just wide but Lincoln took the lead on 17 minutes from a penalty.

We had further chances – Tyler set up Woolly who shot wide, Kegan had a shot saved & Charlie Barks had an effort from a very narrow angle near the bye line – but we went in at half time 1 down.

Josh Burns came on for Nathan Whitehead at half time & for the final 20 minutes of the game we were treated to an old school strikers performance as Metts replaced Holli.

The second half was pretty much one way traffic – Kegan shot just over, we had an effort cleared off the line. Wellsy had a shot deflected which could have gone anywhere & ended up with the home keeper sitting on the ball, Tyler had a shot saved, Brad Beatson powered a header over, Joe Stacey hit one over – plus 2 glaring penalties that weren’t given (Tyler almost having his knees removed then shortly afterwards Lincoln played basketball in the box).

As well as the above we got into the box on numerous occasions but often passed when we should have shot or shot when a pass was the better option.

We were of the opinion that if we got one we’d get a bagful – but we didn’t do the latter as we couldn’t achieve the former.

So a disappointing result but a heartening performance – I’d rather have it the other way round

WEBMASTER MOTM – Joe Stacey put on a very combative display on his first full start as did the whole defensive unit despite their changes in personnel (Ben B had nothing to do other than pick the penner out of the net). Wellsy gave his usual non stop, high octane performance with good support from Tyler & the midfield were solid. But I’m giving the Glitterball to a young player who only met the rest of the squad an hour & half before kick off – well played Ollie Brown. He defended well & was very calm & assured on the ball

TWITTER POLL MOTM – Brad Wells came out on top again, with Kegan Everington close behind then came the aforementioned Brown, then Charlie Barks & Joe Stacey also polled votes. Thank you to everyone who voted,

143 through the gate with around 50 of those being Azzurri fans, a great turn out from our supporters

Here’s The Gaffers view on the game

So our 100% league record has gone – but we get a chance to get the Blue Juggernaut back in the fast lane on Saturday with a home league game against Tadcaster, kick off 3pm – hopefully we’ll see plenty of you up at the Wezzie
