Recap

The Wezzie boils as Worksop take the spoils

I hate football in the summer months & yesterday did nothing to disavow me of that feeling. The Frickley (& Worksop) players gave absolutely everything on a scorching day but lost out due to 2 goals for the visitors in the last 15 minutes.

Another bit of a shuffle of the pack due to injuries & unavailability meant that Luke Hogg came into the starting 11. The game was one of thrust & parry but chances were at a premium – Jack Mc had a curling effort just wide, Jake Currie was unlucky with a header which was kept out with a fingertip save & then Jack Mc created a break for himself but his shot was saved. With 40 minutes gone, Currie broke down the right & cut into the box & powered the ball in at the near post to make it 1 nil.

Another pack shuffle as Ben Bodle came on for Jack Burton at half time – JB took a full blammer in the dial during the first half & couldn’t come out for the 2nd half. Bodle wasn’t on the pitch for long as he was red carded as he challenged a Worksop player on the edge of the box. Sadly the ref didn’t maintain this consistency when the last Worksop defender handled on the edge of the box shortly afterwards.

Currie was not to be ignored – he made a lung busting surge but his shot was saved.

Worksop got an equaliser on 82 & 5 minutes later took the lead & ultimately the victory.

Neither side had any gas left at the final whistle & they all deserve merit for giving us a game to watch given the conditions.

MEDIA TEAM MOTM – plenty to mention. Luke Hogg did very well on his debut & Ollie Russon looks a very decent footballer & covered loads of ground in midfield. Jack Mc ran his blood to water as the lone man up top & Jake Currie had his best game for us, scored & was a menace all afternoon. At the back Sam L & Jack Harrison hardly put a foot wrong & I’m giving the Glitterball to the Captain, Sam Liversidge. Also a final mention for Liam Carrick who came on in the 2nd half & was impressive.

TWITTER POLL MOTM – a close one between Ollie Russon, Sam Liversidge & Jake Currie with Currie coming out on top. Jack Harrison also polled as did Luke Hogg. Thank you to everyone who voted – all votes count towards the August Player of the Month award sponsored by Bowlands Brewery

260 through the gate, thank you to everyone who came to back the boys when a few hours in the Kalahari Desert would have been a cooler more comfortable option.

Few days off now until we visit Carlton on Saturday – don’t forget we are hoping to run a supporters coach to the game. Please contact John Longbottom on 01977 647242 to book your place
