Match Preview – Saturday 3rd January 2026

The Blues start 2026 with a trip to league leaders Liversedge for our latest NCEL fixture, kick off is at 3:00pm

After a very strong December from the Frickley boys, 2025 did end on a s light down note with a 3-2 home defeat to Penistone Church. The Blues struggled to really get going in the game but kept themselves in a shout of a point through goals from Will Jenkinson and Tom Alngohuro but sadly wasn’t meant to be as the unbeaten run came to an end.

Never less it was a huge day for the club off the field with a record breaking 786 through the gate, the highest attendance in the NCEL so far this season and the Blues highest since 2008. And the defeat doesn’t detract from what has been a great upturn in form for the Blues since Wooly took over. So plenty of positives to take into 2026

Frickley start the new year in 10th place in the NCEL table on 32 points, roughly equidistant from both the playoffs and the relegation zone so plenty to play for heading into the New Year. Last week’s defeat was only the 2nd in the last 12 games in all competitions and ended a 5 game unbeaten run.

It will be a tough task tomorrow though at the home of league leaders Liversedge. Sedge are 8 points clear at the top of the league, with 2 games in hand on 2nd place Beverley for good measure. They are currently on a 21 game unbeaten run which stretches back to a 2-1 defeat against Handsworth on 6th August, their only defeat of the season so far. Last time out, they played a thriller with Horbury Town, coming off 4-3 winners.

The Blues are one of the few teams to take points of Sedge this season however, with the reverse fixture ending in a 0-0 draw at Westfield Lane back in September. Football is a strange game so you just never know what might happen tomorrow.
