Match Preview – Saturday 28th March 2026

It’s a local derby with a difference this Non League Day as the Blues are in the road for the final time in this 2025/26 season as we head to Rossington Main for a huge game at the bottom of the NCEL Premier, kick off is at 3:00pm
Frickley were unable to pick up the point that would have guaranteed safety on Tuesday night following a tricky 3-1 defeat to a high flying Sheffield side. A game dictated by conditions did yield plenty of positives for the Blues though but despite Lucas Robinson’s late goal looking like making things interesting, it did ultimately end in defeat.
The Blues reman 12th in the NCEL on 41 points, still not mathematically safe in this gripping 9 team battle to beat the drop. 42 is the magic number though and a point remains all the Blues need to guarantee survival. However, it does seem highly unlikely the Blues will be dragged in with a number of teams needing to win all their remaining games to usurp them in the table
And it’s the side currently occupying that final relegation place that welcome Frickley tomorrow. Rossington Main come into the weekend in 19th place but with two potentially crucial games in hand over the majority of the surrounding teams. It does mean the face a week of 4 games desperately needing points but their confidence will be high after victory in a huge 6 pointer away at Horbury Town last week
This is the 3rd meeting of the season between the two sides with it currently being one each for wins. The Blues won the league encounter at the Wezzie 4-1 courtesy of goals from Shaun Heselwood, Desnity Nnenaya, Lucas Robinson and Charlie Clegg
But Rosso got their own back a couple of weeks later with a victory on penalties in the Sheffield Cup after a 2-2 draw. Lewis Binns and Lucas Robinson getting the goals that evening to bring the Blues back from 2 goals down but Rosso snuck it in the shoot out.
