Recap
Golcar United 6 Frickley 0
It was a chastening afternoon on the road for The Blues, falling to a comprehensive 6-0 defeat against a clinical Golcar United side. The scoreline was heavily influenced by early goals in both halves, leaving The Boys in Blue chasing the game throughout.
Injury and holidays robbed The Blues side of the presence of Tom Alngohuru, Luis Afonso Ferreira and Tom Radley but U23s goal getter Bailey Cowsell was available after signing first team forms.
The game got off to the worst possible start for The Azzurri in the 4th minute when TK turned in an unfortunate own goal, slicing a clearance straight past his own keeper, Sykes, to put Golcar ahead.
The hosts doubled their advantage just 8 minutes later when a cross into the box was glanced into the top corner by a flying header.
Despite the early setbacks, The Blues managed to create openings. Destiny registered the first shot on target, a wormburner saved in the 9th minute. Later, Cable managed to round the keeper, passed to Robbo but his shot was locked by recovering defenders. And Robbo went through but saw his stinging angled drive pushed away. Frickley efforts were continuously thwarted, with a potential clear run for Cable being cut short by a missed tug on his shirt.
The mounting frustration led to a brief dust up in the 33rd minute, resulting in Jenko receiving his customary yellow card.
As the first half concluded, Sykes was forced into a crucial save to deny a ball diverted towards his own net by Jenko, ensuring the deficit remained at 2 goals at the interval. HT 2-0.
Hopes of a Bottesford-style comeback were immediately extinguished in the second half. Less than 30 seconds from the restart, a defensive mixup led to the ball being pinged around the Blues box before Golcar poked in a third.
The Azzurri tried to react, with Cable running clear only to be pulled back for offside, and Woolly setting up a chance that just eluded his teammate, Cable. That was Woolly’s final act as he was replaced by Johnson.
However, the change didn’t halt Golcar’s momentum. The hosts added two in quick succession as the game entered its final 20 minutes. After a 70th minute run down the left, Golcar cut inside and fired in, followed by a spectacular strike from out wide by their number 9 that soared into the top corner, leaving Sykes with no chance, just 3 minutes later.
The young trio of Cowsell, Horobin and Sheard, brought on as subs, were unable to make an impact. Despite a late effort, where Cable teed up Butch only for the shot to sail over the bar, Golcar had the final say. They finished the scoring in the 90th minute, as their number 9 converted a corner at the back post to complete his hat trick and the 6-0 rout. FT 6-0.
It was a day when not too much clicked. But we’re Frickley so we recover, rethink and regroup. And we go again next time out!
In one of those twists of fate that football often throws up, the draw for the 3rd round of the NCEL League Cup was made not long after full time and, of course, we were handed a home tie against Golcar United! 3rd time lucky?
WEBMASTER MOTM – the first half performance was only marred by conceding 2 early goals, but the second half was more disjointed. Sam Cable, Niall Butchart and Harry Gagen were energetic, and Lucas Robinson was enterprising. However, the Glitterball goes to Will Jenkinson. Maybe it wasn’t a day for defenders but he always personifies the fight that’s going to get us out of this fix. Jawohl, Jenko!
TWITTER MOTM – Will Jenkinson and Sam Cable were joint winners, taking it from Lucas Robinson and Niall Butchart. Thanks to all who voted.
SPONSORS/VOLUNTEERS MOTM – Will Jenkinson was chosen by Chris Long. Well done, Jenko!
344 through the gate, with a goodly representation from the Bailiwick of SESKU. We thank you for your loyal support on another of those days!

The Blues are next in action on Saturday 25th October when we make the short trip to Wombwell Town for a local derby, 3pm kickoff. Hope to see you all there….
