Recap

Frickley 5 Emley 0 (PSF5)

The Azzurri delivered a dominant performance in the El Claisse-ico, sweeping aside higher division opponents Emley with a resounding 5-0 victory.

The Blues flew out of the blocks, with Lucas Robinson opening the scoring in the 7th minute. Striding forward with confidence, he let fly from 25 yards, giving the keeper no chance.

Frickley didn’t let the intensity drop, and just 6 minutes later, Tom A intercepted a loose Emley pass, surged forward, and played a pinpoint cross to Robinson, whose shot crashed against the post. The ball fell kindly for Tom A again, and he teed up Woolly, who narrowly missed with a rising effort.

The Boys in Blue doubled their lead on 22 minutes. Galloping after a long ball down the left, Tom A took on the fullback, cut inside, and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

3 minutes later, it was 3–0. Tom A was at it again with another driving run, pulling the ball back for Destiny, who made no mistake with a composed finish.

Robinson and Destiny nearly combined again on 29 minutes, but the flag was up for offside. Frickley continued to press, with the Emley keeper only able to parry a curling Tom A free-kick away on 35 minutes, and Tom A once more beating defenders only to fire narrowly wide on the turn in the 39th minute. HT 3-0.

The second half began in the same fashion, with a goal. Just 2 minutes in, Destiny latched onto a slick Tom A through ball and coolly put the ball past the onrushing keeper for his second of the game.

Emley offered a rare response with a shot blazed over on 48 minutes, before Tom Radley added number 5 in the 67th minute, rising highest to nod in from Butch’s corner.

Destiny came close to completing his hat-trick in the 77th minute with a long-range strike that the Emley keeper got his hands to, taking enough pace off the ball to stop it trickling over the line.

A late Emley free-kick looked threatening, but the Frickley wall held firm, typifying a strong defensive display.

After being redundant for much of the evening, Blues stopper Will Sykes was called into action late on, making a superb last minute save to preserve the clean sheet. FT 5-0.

Let’s not get all carried away, it’s only preseason, but that was a comprehensive dismantling of the NPL opposition. And against his former club, it shows that the gaffer has got the squad moving in the right direction.

WEBMASTER MOTM – the level of performance was stepped up a notch again. Everyone was on their game. Radders and Jenko were solid, Butch was a midfield dynamo, Robbo’s forward forays were decisive and Destiny’s finishing was ice cold. But the Glitterball goes to Tom Alngohuru. Tom A was a relentless menace down the flanks with a goal, two assists, and endless energy. Triffic, Tom!

227 through the gate. Thank you such great support on a damp evening!
