Law 12 of the game states that ‘a goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when: the ball is between the hands or between the hand & any surface (eg ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms…….except at Golcar’ – so well done to the officials on getting it right yesterday

We had plenty of bodies missing yesterday through injury & illness but the team didn’t go missing – they all stepped up to the plate & put in a very strong performance to see off the home team.

We were straight onto the offensive with the sublime Green setting up Sime Czubik for Cubes to finish with great panache (sadly the Webmaster missed the goal as he was driving round the adjacent housing estate trying to find the ground…..)

It could have been 2 shortly after when Big Al crossed but it just eluded El Binno & we continued to press the home defence throughout the remainder of the half but with no further addition

I remember when Rich Collier scored a free kick at Chadderton & I thought ‘I’ll not see a better free kick than that this season’ – fast forward to Knaresborough at home; Ben Hall ‘hold my beer’, then Rich Collier in the same game ‘no, hold my beer’. 64 minutes in yesterday; George Green ‘HOLD MY BEER!‘ We were awarded a free kick about 30 yards out, Greeny lines it up, the home defenders are saying ‘let him have a shot from there’…..so he does – TOP BINS in off the crossbar (the game was held up for 5 minutes to allow the crossbar to receive medical attention)

This woke Golcar up & they scored a perfectly acceptable goal as per the above stated Law 12 on 69 minutes, which lead to Greeny being sinbinned for 10 minutes for protesting. With the man advantage the home team came back in to the game but the home defence, particularly Chaz Preston who made 2 point blank saves, were very much up to the task

When Green returned to the fray he was back at it again – he chipped the ball over the defence & ran on to it himself & then crashed a shot against the crossbar with the help of the keepers fingers

Right at the death Nath Fletcher had a chance to give the scoreline a more realistic feel but he shot over – but it mattered not as we comfortably saw out the remainder of the game

A very good team performance to bring an end to the sequence of recent reverses. The Webmaster missed the previous 3 games – all defeats – but he was back yesterday & we won…..make of that what you will!

WEBMASTER MOTM – I could lob in another team award for this one – but I’m not going to. The defence were very strong – & a shout out here to Chaz Preston. Got some hammer from the home support after the goal – but stood up to it & gave it back in the best possible way – catching all his crosses & pulling off 2 point blank saves. Chaz 1 home fans 0. The midfield engine purred away nicely. Up top Burkey & Big Al gave the defence a House Of Pain & Sime Cubes had his best game for us. But the Glitterball has to go to the ubiquitous George Green – he was playing a different game to everyone else yesterday
