Recap
On the way to the game, the Mighty Ken commented that he wondered which Frickley would turn up – the Prescot Frickley or the Hallam Frickley. As it turned out we got 45 minutes of each…..
Apart from an early chance for the home team Frickley completely dominated the first half, leaving Brid in a miasma of misplaced passes & speculative pot shots. The home team were thankful to go in at the break only 1 down as The Azzurri once again had enough chances to put the game to bed in the first half.
Big Dev started proceedings with a shot over & Joe Stacey had a number of good breaks down the left hand side but his shots were either saved or cleared. The Blues got their deserved lead on 32 minutes – we had 2 or 3 bites at the same cherry before Danny Burns decided enough was enough & smashed the ball into the onion bag.
Straight after Jaz Goundry almost doubled the lead with a shot that fizzed inches wide
Brid got back on terms pretty much straight after half time – the first meaningful action for new loanee Jordan Pierrepoint (on loan from Basford) was to pick the ball out of the net.
From that point Brid came into the ascendency & we struggled to find the composure & dominance that we had shown in the first half. Although the home team had plenty of the ball they never looked like adding a 2nd goal.
We still had chances to win it – Joe West with a couple of long range efforts most notably. The frustrating thing was that we got into a number of good positions but we tried the same approach every time – most of which ended up in missing the target or comfortable saves for the keeper. There’s an old saying ‘if you keep doing the same thing, you’ll get the same result’ & we did!
So a bright first half but a not so illuminating second half. In September, when we couldn’t buy a result, we’d have been happy with an away point but last night was definitely 2 points dropped not 1 gained.
WEBMASTER MOTM – workmanlike rather than outstanding performances for this one. The defensive unit (including Jordan) were solid & Goundry adapted well to his new midfield position. Stacey was threatening particularly first half & the front 3 of Crouz, Wells & Morton are starting to work together. But I’m giving the Glitterball to Burnsy – part of the solid defence & scored the goal that no-one else seemed to want to
TWITTER POLL MOTM – Burnsy takes this one too, just shading it from Brad Wells with Holli & Piteu Crouz tucked in behind. Thank you to everyone who voted.
200 through the gate with around 20% of those being Blues fans – thank you to everyone who travelled to support the boys again
Here’s the Gaffer telling it how he sees it
Next up we are away to Yorkshire Amateur on Saturday for a league fixture – no supporters coach for this one – hopefully see you there
