Recap

Bridlington Town 0 Frickley 5

The Blues laboured a little for the first 45 minutes in typically cold, wet and windy ‘Bank Holiday at the seaside’ weather. In the second 45, the weather didn’t improve but the performance did as some clinical finishing took the Blues out of sight.

With Todd Jordan back from injury and new signing Nathan Jarman coming in, the Frickley starting eleven was Tom Nicholson, Nyle Blake, Tom Davie, Todd Jordan, Nathan Hotte, Chris Salt, Kegan Everington, Jack Smith, Brad Grayson, Nathan Jarman, Tyler Williams with Jonny Margetts, Conor Green, James Hugo, Josh McLauchlan, Alfie Eccles-Smith and Jack Wightwick on the bench.

Nathan Hotte saw an early shot tipped over the bar before Nathan Jarman opened the scoring in the 9th minute. Brad G put in an inch-perfect cross from the right and The Starman met it with a stunning flying scissor kick from 8 yards out. What a way to open your account!

Les Bleus got a bit bogged down – unsurprisingly, given the conditions – for the next 20 minutes before having Tom Nicholson to thank for keeping it at 1-0. Twice in 3 minutes Tom Nick pulled off crucial saves, the first diving bravely at the feet of the Brid forward when one on one and the second palming a header round the upright at full stretch.

Starman, Tom Davie and Brad G all had half chances safely held by the Brid keeper in the closing minutes of the half. HT 0-1.

The second half started in a similar vein, with Brid flashing a low shot wide and nodding a corner past the post in the first 10 minutes.

However, 11 minutes into the half, Tom Nick played the ball through the middle, sending Brad G clear. The Bagsman made no mistake slotting home from the edge of the box.

Soon after, Tom Nick tidied up by rushing out to thwart a Brid attack but from then on The Azzurri were increasingly in the ascendancy.

Cranking up the pressure finally told in the last 10 minutes as the floodgates opened (not literally, it didn’t rain quite that much!). In the 80th minute, in an almost carbon copy of the second goal, Tom Nick fed Nyle-nel
Messi this time, but the result was the same to make it 3-0.

With 5 minutes to go, The Bagsman was in the thick of it, forcing the Brid keeper to get down to make a smart stop but James Hugo pounced on the rebound and put it away for number 4.

Brad G almost got his second of the game a couple of minutes later, through one on one with the keeper again, he decided to go high this time but the keeper got his fingertips on the attempted lob to avert the danger.

Then in the last minute Josh McLauchlan made it 5 to Frickley. Young Macca controlled the ball on the penalty spot and kept a cool head as he deftly tucked the ball past the Brid custodian. FT 0-5.

The Boys in Blue turned the screw and spread the goals around, in tricky conditions against a tenacious Bridlington side. Not a bad day, not a bad day at all!

WEBMASTER MOTM – there were performances all over the park but the pick of the bunch to these eyes were Todd Jordan, Nathan Jarman and Brad Grayson. It was great to see Toddy back in the fray, he put his body on the line for the Blue cause all afternoon. The Starman showed his class, holding the ball up well, the peach of a goal was just icing on the cake. The Bagsman was an absolute livewire, creating chances, putting ‘em away, he never gave the Brid defence a moment to draw breath. And special mentions for Nyle-nel, James Hugo and Macca who also gave a masterclass in sticking the ball in the net! However, the Glitterball has to go to Tom Nick, or should that be Top Nick? Top drawer stopping for certain plus a couple of assists – it doesn’t get much better. Bravo sir!

128 through the gate with a good number travelling from the SESKU area! We thank you for your dedication on such a grotty day!

Mickleover visit The Wezzie next Saturday for the next preseason game. Hope to see 200 (the max attendance) of you there….
