Frickley Athletic v Brighouse Town

Recap

If Saturdays tactics were Muhammad Ali Rope-a-dope, then last night was a mixture of Vinny Pazienza & Herol Graham (you enjoying this Gareth??).

For 60 minutes we played high intensity, in your face football (as typified by Brad Wells) & then for the final half hour we defended like tigers (as typified by Brad Wells).

We were straight out of the blocks & we tore through the Brighouse defence with impunity – The Prince Of Darkness had 2 good chances in the first 10 minutes, but he made no mistake 5 minutes later when a ball came in from the right & Kieran latched onto it & stuck it in the onion bag from the edge of the box. His first competitive goal for us & our first competitive goal against Brighouse.

This woke the visitors up & they went straight up the other end & equalised.

Back on the attack again, The Bomber had a shot saved which went out for a corner from which the Azzurri crafted a lovely set piece which led to skipper Brad opening his account for the season on 34 minutes.

HALF TIME – FRICKLEY 2 BRIGHOUSE 1

The 2nd half saw us switch hit from Pazienza to Herol – Joe West put a free kick just over & The Wolfman had a couple of half chances – the final half hour of the game consisted of Brighouse trying, & failing, to break us down as The Azzurri soaked it up & soaked it up some more. No-one typified this more than Brad Wells – the defensive line started with him – every player followed his example & they got stuck in.

Reiss Harrison replaced Kieran, Charlie Barks replaced Kegan & Josh Burns replaced Woolly but it didn’t mean there was any interruption in our tactics & play mode.

Now we all love a stylish 4-0 win with flowing football, but I love performances like last night where the 14 players were a morphous unit & battled like hell for each other.

WEBMASTER MOTM – my first shout is going out to the lads who probably won’t get recognised but were massive yesterday – Holli, Kegan, Nathan Whitehead, Brad Beatson, Joe West; a superb shift by these boys. Kieran was frightening, particularly first half but but but if we’re looking at absolute monster performances then we have look at Bomber Brad Wells – phenomenal……
