Recap

Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, a potential Tier 4 – whatevs, the Frickley boys were Top Tier yesterday & were full value for their 4 nil victory – which would have been more had it not been for some excellent saves by the Drayton keeper & some profligacy in front of goal.

With a number of absentees, there were home debuts for Zac Hartley & Gianluca Bucci – which gave us a very youthful back line & midfield – & basically the players just passed the ball with great aplomb all afternoon. It was really easy on the eye – well done to everyone concerned.

Now 1 swallow does not a Summer make – but it certainly improves your weekend!!

Here’s Ken with some details:

Market Drayton’s poor form continued as Frickley earned their first home league win of the season.
Both sides had efforts from range before Frickley’s Nyle Blake broke clear in the 20th minute and Sam Agius saved his shot from a narrow angle. Jonny Margetts and Ben Tomlinson both had a big chances for the home team blocked in the following quarter of an hour.
Matthew Jones hit MDT’s best shot of the opening 45, his rasping drive diverted wide.
But Frickley nosed ahead when Margetts headed home Blake’s cross just before break. And there was still time for Margetts to be barged over in the box then get up and convert the spot kick.
The second period started in a downpour with Declan Arber screwing an early shot wide for MDT. MDT kept up the pressure for a good 10 minutes prior to Margetts and Blake having chances for Frickley, undone by a last ditch MDT toe.
The home side started to take the ascendency, confirmed in the 71st minute when Ben Tomlinson tucked away a loose ball from inside the six yard box.
Both sides had gilt-edged chances to increase the goal tally. Then Tyler Williams surged forward to finish a superb 85th minute team move and make it four.

Back to me again – most of the goals are on our Twitter feed. It’s a pity that a member of the Media Team (who only has one job) didn’t capture Tylers goal. The move & finish was a thing of beauty.

Some tough games coming up, but if we play like we did yesterday, happy days!!

WEBMASTER MOTM – back line was very solid. Jackson did what he had to & Hotte marshalled his young cadets around him. Young Fin was excellent in midfield again – the lad can play & he’s a real scrapper. The movement of the front 3 was quality – & despite The Surgeon scoring 2 I’m giving the Glitterball to Ben Tomlinson. He really put his stamp on the game & scored the 3rd goal that meant it was game over. Well done sir. Finally I’m giving a mention to someone who rarely gets a mention – but he is the living embodiment of what I want to see in our midfield – Kegan Everington. He gets stuck in, doing all the hard graft & the dirty work. The fact that he doesn’t get noticed shows how well he does his job. He’s the Frickley Makalele!

Here’s what the Gaffer thought & this is what Jackson Smith & Zac Hartley had to say (it gave them a break from having to clear up in the dressing room!). All post match interviews are on our You Tube page

TWITTER POLL MOTM – The Fin Shrimpton Army were out again yesterday! Fin took 50% of the votes, ahead of Margs, Tyler & Tommo. Charlie Barks & Zac Hartley also polled. Thank you to everyone who voted

176 through the gate which, given current circumstances & the weather yesterday, is a very decent turn out. Thank you all for your support.

Next up we are away to Hyde in the FA Trophy next Saturday.
