Our U23’s 1st home game of the season ended in a entertaining 3-3 draw against a decent Yorkshire Ams side.

We got off to the worst possible start conceding 2 goals in the 1st 15 mins, so they now had to dig deep and try to find a way back into the game.

Matty Hughes saw a tremendous effort saved low down by the visiting keeper, the resulting corner saw Jake Lockwood have a header well saved – the hosts were now knocking on the door.

Just before half time the talented Harry Alexander exchanged passes with Lee Jordan who crossed into the box and unfortunately for the visitors the defender trying to clear, diverted the ball into the bottom corner 2-1 going into half time. Gotta love an OG when it goes for you!

Frickley were quick out of the blocks second and equalised within 10 seconds when Brandon Fearn played in Josh Cummins to fire powerfully through the impressive visiting Gk.

Game on now – both sides created good chances as the game became an open encounter.

The visitors were the 1st to score when a long throw was not cleared and it was tucked away at the far post with a bobbling effort which found the bottom corner.

Frickley were behind again but to there credit they didn’t abandon their passing style and undoubtedly scored the goal of the game when Mason Kilmartin burst through several challenges to feed Will Handley who superbly laid the ball off to in-form Josh Cummins who coolly fired into the far bottom corner – 3-3!!

Both teams had good chances to win and Jacob Harper pulled off a great save to block a goal bound effort which resulted him leaving the field with a hand injury (Jacob later tweeted that it was just badly sprained & not too serious – PHEW!!)

Stand in captain marvel Brandon Fearn put the gloves on for the final 10mins (course he did – that’s Fearny through & through). Frickley’s chance to grab all 3 points came when the impressive Lee Jordan, who worked his socks off all, game superbly crossed from the left hand side to Josh Cummins who provided a great header but unfortunately for him the keeper made a great save to keep it out.

Final score ended in a 3 apiece draw and the hosts were held in an entertaining game.

Bob Smith MOTM went to Harry Alexander who was a constant threat & at the heart of all Frickley’s attacking plays, who just pipped Lee Jordan & Brandon Fearn who both had outstanding games.

Next up we are away to Ilkley U21s, w/c 16 October – don’t forget your hat…..
