Frickley Ladies 12 Killamarsh 1

What a game this was, final score 12-1 to Frickley Ladies.

The lasses seemed nervous during the warm up as they got ready to play Killamarsh who beat them in their last meeting.

After a team talk, the ladies took to the pitch fired up and ready to battle for the win.

Cool as cucumbers, Leigh, Nic, Keeley and Laura show just what football is about. A combination of passes around Killamarsh’s midfield and defence saw the ball travel beautifully up the field, finally landing at Nic’s feet who slotted it into the bottom corner to open the scoring within the first 30 seconds.

A quick turnaround saw Killamarsh break down the wing but pressure from Ali and Charl made it difficult for them to connect with the ball, and made Emma’s life in the net much easier.

Emma took the goal kick, finding Caron in midfield, controlling the ball beautifully. Some good passing found Caron just inside the box to hit it straight into the back of the net for 2-0.

Susie then found her self inside the box with a chance at goal, unfortunately saved by the keeper.

A big kick from Killamarsh’s keeper saw the ball land in front of Sam, she judged the bounce well, and passed to Gemma who did a lovely job getting the ball up the wing to Laura. Keeley, worked hard in the middle to find Nic out wide who crossed it in, straight to the head of Caron who scored with a superb header.

Leigh and Susie linked up on the left and Leigh got a shot off but the Killamarsh keeper stopped it. Susie got a shot at goal, also saved, and Keeley got a chance but hit a defender.

After a quick break, the ladies set back up feeling good and confident after going in 3-0 up.

Frickley’s solid defence, made up of Gemma, Sam, Charl and Ali, continued to make it very difficult for Killamarsh to get close to goal.

The ladies’ passing was brilliant, retaining possession, finding space and shooting when the opportunity arose. Unfortunately, Nic struggled to find the back of the with her left foot after several attempts.

Then a free kick was given to Killamarsh in a dangerous area but no stress for Emma who deflected the shot wide for a corner. The defence remained calm, clearing the ball for Frickley to attack.

Keeley, Nic and Courtney passed and moved their way up the pitch, Nic took her chance and fired into the bottom corner for  the fourth goal.

Frickley kept pressing, looking for more goals. Leigh hit the post and Laura shot wide. But Leigh then got the ball on the edge of the box, used her power and found back of net. The time? Five to Frickley.

Soon after, Laura calmly switched the ball onto her right foot and placed a low shot past the keeper for 6-0.

The ladies had some defending to do as Sam chased down a rapid winger, and Gemma was solid as she intercepted the ball. Ali played out from the back to Courtney on the wing. Some more nice interplay put the ball at Laura’s feet who smashed the ball straight past the keeper, and Frickley were in seventh heaven.

In the last half an hour, The ladies were playing 3 at the back to give Charl a run upfront. Nevertheless, a deflated Killamarsh team continued to battle and tried to create chances, although Ali at the back makes it hard work for them as she tapped it out for a corner. A brilliant cross saw Killamarsh get a shot off but it was capably saved by the safe hands of Emma.

A quick ball out to Susie was moved on to Leigh in in the box who again found the back of the net.

Charl had an an attempt on goal saved before a quick goal kick caught the ladies off guard and allowed Killamarsh to go 3 v 2. Although Sam and Gemma worked their legs off to recover, the ball was passed around them and eventually ended up in the back of the net to make it 8-1 with a good goal by Killamarsh.

Leigh then retaliated immediately and took a pot shot from way outside the box and the ball floated effortlessly into the back of the net to complete her hat trick.

After plenty of sighters, and some stick from the other girls, Nic finally managed to hit the net with her left foot, getting her treble and racking up double figures, 10-1.

Charl then stepped up to the mark, one shot going wide, one going over the cross bar and one going nicely into the bottom corner. Charl is on the score sheet.

And with around a minute to go, Ali passed to Courtney who in turn passed to Keeley. Keeley found Charl and she spotted Nic on the edge of box. Nic slid the ball to Laura for her to put away her third with a first time shot, completing the third hat trick of the game, and a twelfth goal for Frickley!

The final whistle blew and a tired band of ladies shook hands at the end of a very entertaining game.

An absolutely amazing performance from every single lass on the (fake) grass. A true team effort which is clearly shown by the scoreline.

Caron was chosen as our Lass of the Grass for a superb goal from a header.

Thank you to all our supporters who turned up to cheer on the lasses, team mates, family and friends. It’s always appreciated having you there.

Thanks to our sponsors, Howard Civil Engineering, Tait and Macy Cakes, and thanks to South Elmsall Town Council for the use of the Frickley 4g pitch.
