Sorry to give it a blast in the middle of Euro 2021 game but we’ve got news of another tremendous signing for the Azzurri & it can’t wait……
We are delighted to announce that Nathan Whitehead (not Kens lad) is joining us. Nathan joins us from Matlock & will be our midfield enforcer.
Here are his thoughts on joining the club, why he’s not sleeping at the moment & Ravel Morrison…..
Webmaster – tell us a bit about yourself. What position you play, what type of player are you & who have you played for previously
Nathan Whitehead – So I’m a central midfielder, a player who likes to get about teams, play with aggression and tempo and try to chip in with the odd goal. I’ve been at Matlock town for the last couple of seasons and before that Spalding United, another brief spell at Matlock, Lincoln United and Leek Town. I’ve played under the Gaffer at three of those clubs and feel I’ve always played my best football under him him.
WM – what about your life outside football – work / family life / other interests etc
NW – Life outside football has just become a little more hectic, I’ve just had a newborn daughter who is five weeks old, it’s fast paced but so rewarding. Outside of football I work at Aviva in Sheffield and my other interests include eating out with good company and if I’m not doing any of the above you’ll probably find me in the boxing gym or Peak District.
WM – you’ve got bags of experience at this level, who is the best player that you’ve played with or against & why
NW – This is a great question! Off the top of my head – I think on paper it has to be Ravel Morrison but technically there was a lad who I played with at Leek called Dan Shelley, could hit you with his eyes closed.
WM – you’ve got an eye for a goal too, any in particular that stand out
NW – There’s a couple but I think there was a 25 yard volley for Spalding against Chasetown. That one sticks in my mind, no doubt the gaffer was screaming at me to pass it!!
WM – on the subject of goals, what’s your preference: 25 yarder top bins or a well worked team goal or don’t you care so long as it ends up in the onion bag
NW – Personally I don’t mind as long as they help to win the game that’s all that matters to me.
WM – how did the phone call go with the Gaffer when he got in contact about joining us
NW – It went well and was a no brainer really, like I said previously having played for the Gaffer before I know the standards expected. The clubs not to far for me in terms of travel and the squad and management team put together already looks different class so I’m just wanting to contribute where I can and hopefully push on this season.
WM – have you played with or against any of our current squad previously
NW – Yeah there’s a few in there I’ve played alongside to be fair, been at Matlock with Kingy and he’s a good mate outside of football and also played with Brad Beatson, and Wellsy and Metts when I was at Spalding, so I know there’s some good craic in the team already
WM – what are your hopes for yourself & the club this season?
NW – I think my personal goals and the clubs are aligned really. I have unfinished business in this league, got to the play offs twice but came up short so promotion has to be the main goal. Personally too I just want to get back to enjoying my football with a good set of lads and the rest should hopefully fall into place.
WM – final one, describe yourself in 3 words!
NW – ha ha good question! I’m sure this one would divide opinion. I’d say hardworking, confident and sometimes impulsive. I’m sure others would say funny too!!
Welcome aboard Nathan Whitehead!
