OUR U23s vs Penistone u21s – PSF1 – a brief match report
Penistone Church U21’s 1
Frickley Athletic U23’s 4
Our Young Azzurri return to action – albeit of the friendly kind – & Ken & I have to get used to new names & new faces…….but it’s the same old same old with regards to what the boys deliver on the pitch – the same lovely skills, the same confidence, the same joy of playing football & playing it well
Frickley U23’s made there long awaited return to pre season last night with a tough encounter against Penistone Church U21’s.
The 1st half ended 1-1 with the home side having the better chances, they scored a great goal when their right back cut inside & curled a beauty into the far top corner.
Frickley’s reply came from the penalty spot when defender Danny Selwood burst through midfield to feed Joe Wilson who was fouled in the box, up stepped Josh Cummins who fired into the bottom corner.
The 2nd half belonged to the visitors scoring 3 good goals & even missing a penalty. Diyar Mahmud was a constant threat on the right wing & he scored 2 great individual goals. We’ve all been there – a player is at a very narrow angle & you think ‘no way can he score from there’ – Diyar doesn’t play by those rules
Frickley’s other goal came when Spencer Moses carried the ball out of defence & played a delightful through ball to triallist Jacob ‘The Hotstepper’ Camozzi (a nod to the reggae / dancehall fusion fans!!) who coolly placed the ball past the advancing goalkeeper. A move & a finish of real quality
Overall summary the game was played in the right spirit & it was good work out for both teams & plenty of positives for the young Frickley side.
The boys are next in action next Wednesday when they travel to Dearne & District Reserves 7.30pm kick off
