Our u23s vs emley u23s – a brief (delayed) match report

Emley U23s 2
Frickley U23s 0

The old cliche is ‘but can they do it on a cold, wet, windy, foggy Monday night in Emley……’

So our Young Azzurri finally got to kick a ball again after 7 weeks without a game – & they were certainly thrown in at the deep end, away to top of the table & unbeaten Emley in weather more suited to Stocksbridge in July. It would have been easy for the boys to go & hide – but none of them did. & even though we came out on the wrong end of a 2 nil result, the lads gave a chuffing good account of themselves.

To my unbiased eyes the Blues were the better team in the first half & only a weather assisted goal gave Emley an undeserved lead at half time

After a 7 week lay off Frickley young guns had a tough return to league action this week, as they traveled to the unbeaten league leaders on Monday evening.

On a cold & miserable night they turned in a brave, gutsy performance & certainly gave a good home side a close game.

Both sides created good chances to score in the 1st half but Emley scored from a corner when the ball seemed to hold up in wind causing confusion in the Frickley defence & dropped nicely for their tricky winger to head home. The visitors chances came through the hard working Tyler Sheard, Charlie Clegg & Joe Wilson who all had good chances denied by the visiting keeper.

2nd half did belong to the home side as they pinned Frickley back in search of another goal, defenders Spencer Moses & Lincoln Gleadall did give their all along with Ross Pritchard in goals, but unfortunately with 10 mins left Emley scored a 2nd goal which they probably deserved.

Charlie Glegg who worked tirelessly upfront was unfortunate with a header late on & a tight offside decision when he did find the net in the final minutes.

Final score 2-0 to the hosts which was a fair result as Emley dominated the second half.

The Paul Mann MOTM went to Tyler Sheard who was outstanding throughout, his powerful running & determination was on show for the full 90 mins, even when he switched from midfield to full back due a teammates injury.

Well done Tyler!!!
