Hello again!! Blink, the summers over and it’s time for football to return again as we head into our preseason friendly schedule, starting with a rerun of ‘El Classicoal’ as welcome Pontefract Collieries to Westfield Lane, kick off is at 7:30pm

It’s been 87 days since the final whistle was blown on the Blues 2024/25 campaign, an afternoon to forget following a 7-2 defeat at Penistone Church that was perhaps apt to close out a sub par season.

It saw the Blues finish in 18th place in the NCEL Premier Division, 6 points clear of the drop zone below. But just as soon as that season was concluded, the preparation begun ahead of the new campaign.

The gaffer Tom Claisse and his management team have been working tirelessly since then to make additions to the squad in the hopes of propelling the Blues further up the table.

It means that only 6 players remain from last season after a summer of change but this has allowed the squad to be shaken up with plenty of fresh faces coming into the club. It will be great to see many of them in action tomorrow night.

Our Opponents

It will be a tough test for the new look Blues though as we welcome NPL opposition in the form of our friends and rivals Pontefract Collieries to the Wezzie.

Ponte had a relatively difficult season themselves in the NPL last season. They finished 13th but were embroiled in a very close relegation battle in that league for most of the season, only securing their status with 2 games remaining.

They have also seen plenty of changes to their squad ahead of what will be their first preseason friendly action so expect plenty of changes from both sides throughout as both management teams start piecing together their teams ahead of the new season.

Previous Meetings

The two sides met at the Wezzie during preseason last year where Colls ran out comfortable 7-1 winners over the Blues on a night to forget. The Blues will certainly be looking to take back bragging rates in the ‘Classicoal’ with a strong performance and result tomorrow!!

Admission is free for those who have purchased season tickets in advance. These will be available to collect from the turnstile prior to kick off. You will also be able to purchase if you are yet to do so. Season tickets ensure free entry to all home preseason games so the sooner you buy, the more you’ll save.

Be sure to have a wander around the ground as well as you’ll notice a few small changes around that have been made to make the Matchday experience better for fans. Our volunteers have been working tirelessly during the close season to get things ready and have done a fantastic job. We wouldn’t be anywhere without them!!
