Match Preview – Tuesday 19th August 2025

The games are coming thick and fast now as we’re back on the road in the NCEL with a trip to Bottesford Town, kick off is at 7:45pm
Blues News
The Blues returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 1-0 victory over Thackley AFC, bestowing the Dennyboys first league defeat of the season, courtesy of a wonder strike from Luis Afonso-Ferreira.
After a first half that saw both sides largely cancel each other out, Frickley turned the screw in the second half and produced a very strong performance well worth the 3 points. It could, and probably should, have been a much comfier scoreline.
However, a first clean sheet of the new season following a gritty, disciplined performance was still a massive positive. It was those sort of games we found ourselves losing too often last season so maybe we’re starting to turn a corner.
The victory saw the Blues rise to 5th in the early NCEL Premier Division table, taking advantage of a number of sides missing league games due to FA Cup commitments. Hopefully a bit of momentum can be built now and the Blues can remain at the right end of the table.

Our Opponents
Our hosts under the lights are Bottesford Town. The Poachers come into this one bottom of the early NCEL table, as one of 4 sides yet to pick up a point in the new league campaign.
However, this only tells half the story as Bottesford have only played 2 league matches due to still being in the FA Cup, a run they continued on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Daventry Town.
Both of the Poachers league defeats have come at home as well this season so they will be looking to get the monkey off their back and will provide a stern test to the Blues
Form – LWLW
League Standing – P2, W0, D0, L2, Pts 0, Pos 20th
Previous Meetings
The two sides shared the points last season, with each team picking up the win in their respective away fixture during the last campaign.
The Blues came away with an entertaining 5-3 victory at the Barrett Steel Stadium last September before the Poachers returned the favour with a 2-1 victory at Westfield Lane in February
Last season was the Blues first occasion picking up points away at Bottesford after falling to defeat in each of the previous meetings at the Barrett Steel. So hopefully that will stand us in good stead for tomorrow.
