The Blues start a week of cup action as we start our NCEL League Cup campaign for this season with a second round visit to Hallam, kick off is at 7:45pm
Blues News
The Blues made it 3 games unbeaten on Saturday but were gutted not to take more as a 90th minute Beverley equaliser levelled another crazy fixture at 3-3.
A game that played out in a very similar fashion to the frantic 5-3 victory over Bottesford the previous week, the Blues led on 3 occasions through a Jack Varley penalty and goals from Rob Guilfoyle and Jamie Tomlinson but lapses in defensive concentration and some wasteful finishing allowed the visitors to strike back on each occasion.
In the end, a disappointing afternoon but now a chance to park the league for a while and turn attention elsewhere.
The Blues had their best run in the League Cup last season, reaching the Quarter Final stage with away victories over Goole and Barton before losing on penalties to Campion after a 2-2 draw. Let’s hope we can go a couple of steps further on this occasion!!

Our Opponents
It is probably one of the toughest draws the Blues could have had though at this stage with a trip to the oldest football ground in the world to face Hallam.
Hallam are fancied by many to be one of teams to beat this season in the NCEL after a very busy summer saw them secure the services of a number of experienced and quality players from the NPL. New skipper Danny South, striker Alex Peterson and midfielders Ross Goodwin and Tom Classie among others have been added to a strong core from last season including ex Blues Hugo Warhurst and Chris Salt to create a formidable looking prospect.
They currently find themselves 5th in the league table on 14 points from 7 games but have had a strong FA Cup run, only exiting the competition this past weekend following a respectable 3-1 defeat against National League North side Farsley Celtic.
They will be looking to improve on last season’s League Cup showing however as they exited in the Second Round last year on penalties after a 1-1 draw with Brigg Town

Previous Meetings
The Countrymen have not been a happy opponent for the Blues during the NCEL days, having done the double in the league in each of the last two seasons. Last season, they recorded a 2-0 win at Sandygate in October before a 5-1 victory at the Wezzie in January.
