Match Preview – Tuesday 14th October 2025

The Blues take a break from league action and begin our JCP Construction NCEL League Cup in memory of James Hitchcock campaign with a second round tie against Bottesford Town at Westfield Lane, kick off is at 7:45pm
Blues News
It was not the start to the Martyn Woolford era that we were all looking for on Saturday as the Blues eventually went down 3-0 against a very strong Handsworth side.
There were, however, some bright moments with the Blues the far better side in the first half but unable to find that killer touch to get the opening goal. Handsworth were better in the second half and got their noses in front and Frickley were just unable to find a way back, with the final two goals coming late on as the Blues pushed forward
So a brief interlude from the league with a League Cup tie to look forward to. The Blues don’t have a great track record in the competition, exiting at this stage in 2 of the 3 previous seasons, including last year with a 6-2 defeat away at Hallam.
The Blues best run came 2 seasons ago when we reached the quarter finals, eventually losing out on penalties after coming from 2 down to draw 2-2 with Campion, so it would certainly be nice to repeat or go slightly better this campaign.
Form (Last 5) – LWLWL
Our Opponents
Our 2nd round opposition in the league cup are fellow NCEL Premier side Bottesford Town. The Poachers will be hoping that the cup can give them a chance to find some form, as they find themselves in the relegation zone in the league table in 19th place
They went one better than the Blues in the league cup last season, reaching the 3rd round before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Penistone Church. They were also quarter finalists alongside the Blues the season prior, losing 3-0 to Emley at that stage.
Form (Last 5) – LDLDL
Previous Meetings
The two sides have already met in the league this season back in August at Bottesford where the Poachers secured a 1-0 victory thanks to a Dylan Corbett header at the start of the second half.
It was a game that lacked any real quality with both sides struggling but Bottesford just edged it overall and were deserving of the win. Hopefully the Blues can get some pay back tomorrow
Match Details
So come on down to the Wezzie and get behind the Blues as we look to commence a cup run. With this being a League Cup tie, we have reduced admission from the normal league prices:
Adults – £5.00
Concessions – £3.00
U16’s – £1.00
Please note that as this is a cup competition, it will be all pay on the night, season tickets are not applicable.
There will also be a minutes silence before the game in memory of Maurice Lacey, a lifelong fan and long time volunteer who sadly passed away over the weekend. Our thought’s are with Maurice’s family, he will be sadly missed
Let’s get a win for Maurice and hopefully progress into the next round of the cup. Hope to see you all there
