After a weekend without football, Frickley are back into midweek league action with another away fixture, as we head to Tadcaster Albion for our next NCEL fixture, kick off is at 7:45pm

Blues News

The Blues got on the board for the 2024/25 season following an encouraging 1-1 draw at Rossington Main last Tuesday evening. Callum Brook got the equaliser after Mitch Langton had given the home side the lead at the end of the 1st half.

It was a really strong all round performance from the new look Frickley side who are still getting to know each other and still gelling as a team. Hopefully the lads will keep getting stronger as the games tick by and that first win of the season won’t be far away!!

It was a great response to the two defeats in the opening fixtures and was overall a great advert for Step 5 and NCEL football as both sides treated the spectators to an end to end spectacle that could have gone either way. Think in the grand scale of things, a point apiece was probably the fair result.

That point and the results last weekend see the Blues in 16th place in the early league table that is still shaking itself out with teams already having played different numbers of games.

Our Opponents

Our opponents Tadcaster were one of the league’s form sides at the end of the last campaign and have carried that momentum forward into the new campaign, seeing them sit 5th in the early standings after an 11th place finish last season.

Mick O’Connell has managed to keep together a strong core of last season’s squad to push on this year but have had some high profile departures, none more so than last season’s top scorer Ollie Norman who moved on the Bradford Park Avenue.

However, recruitment has been strong over the summer, headlined by the arrival of former Emley league winning captain James Knowles into the Brewers defence. Luca Bolino and ex Blue Elliott Andrew have also helped supplement the attack, with Andrew having scored 4 from 4 at the start of the new campaign.

The Brewers started with 3 successive wins in league and cup against Bottesford, Seaham Red Star and Silsden before a big defeat away at Eccleshill on Saturday, losing that one 4-1. They will be keen to bounce back from that and will certainly pose a strong threat to the Blues.

Previous Meetings

Taddy were one of the few teams last season who were unable to record a victory over the Blues. An early 4-2 win at Taddy courtesy of a Lloyd Smith brace and goals from Al Keita and Eliel Anku was followed by a 0-0 draw at Westfield Lane towards the back end of the season.
