Frickley round out September with one final away fixture as we head to Eccleshill United in the NCEL, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

It was another hard luck story for the Blues on Tuesday night as another late goal resulted in Silsden taking all 3 points with a 3-2 victory.

The visitors had taken a 2 goal lead but the Blues rallied well in the 2nd half and goals from Charlie Clegg and an own goal had drawn the game level and looked to be securing a valuable point.

However, in what is becoming an unfortunate trend, the visitors found a goal late on to snatch the 3 points for themselves and leave Frickley empty handed.

The result saw the Blues drop to 11th in the NCEL after 10 games still with a total of 12 points and brought to an end a 3 game unbeaten run in the league.

However, the majority of those points have come on the road so far this season with the Blues yet to lose an away fixture this season. So a positive to hold onto heading into the weekend’s fixture.

Our Opponents

It’s a trip to Bradford this weekend as we head to Eccleshill United. Eccleshill have had a very similar start to their season, currently sitting one place below the Blues in 12th on 11 points but with a couple of games in hand.

The Eagles squad boasts a lot of familiar NCEL names with the likes of Talent Ndlovu, Hass Gorji, Shiraz Khan and Benjamin Gordon all within their ranks. The recent addition of former Brighouse striker Laurence Sorhaindo adds significant more threat to their attack as well, Sorhaindo having a particularly good record against Frickley in his Brighouse days

They recorded an impressive victory in midweek with a 2-1 victory away at Handsworth but had only won 1 of their previous 9 games in league and cup prior to that result. So they will be looking to build some momentum and for a positive result just as much as the Blues will be

Previous Meetings

The two sides have met on four previous occasions in the NCEL over the last 2 seasons, each side boasting a victory whilst the other 2 encounters resulted in draws.

The two victories came last season in a unique situation where both fixtures ended up being played at Westfield Lane. The Blues won the ‘Home’ fixture by 2-1 but the Eagles proceeded to win the ‘Away’ fixture 1-0 in the last game of the season.
