Match Preview - Saturday 27th September 2025

The Blues are back in league action this Saturday as we head to Sheffield FC for our latest NCEL Premier Division fixture, kick off is at 3:00pm

Blues News

The Blues began the post Tom Claisse era by returning to winning ways on Tuesday night with a 1-0 victory over SJR Worksop in the Sheffield Senior Cup.

However, it was a game that demonstrated the story of the season so far, as the Blues dominated for 70 minutes but were unable to kill the game off. SJR then grew in the final 20 to make things very uncomfortable for Frickley and, in the end, hang on for the win.

Ultimately though, the game was about the result after the events of the previous week and the clean sheet was an added bonus after some heavy defeats in recent games. It’s a platform to build from as we head into the rest of the season.

So, back to the league. Frickley come into the weekend in 14th place in the NCEL table with 11 points. It remains incredibly tight however in the mid-table so a couple of positive results would soon see us head back up the league and not leave us looking over our shoulders once again

Form (Last 5) – DLLLW

League Standing – P11, W3, D2, L6, Pts 11, Pos 14th

Our Opponents

It’s been a few seasons but we return to Sheffield FC this weekend for a first ever NCEL encounter between the two sides.

Sheffield were one of the sides relegated to the NCEL from the Northern Premier League last season, after finishing bottom of the table following a disappointing campaign.

They have rebuilt though and will be targeting an immediate return to the NPL this campaign. They come into this one in 6th in the NCEL table on 17 points from their opening 10 games.

They were the last unbeaten side in the division prior to Tuesday night where they fell to a first defeat and gave Horbury a first win in the process, by a 1-0 scoreline. So you can be sure they’ll be keen to bounce back from that on Saturday.

Expect to see a number of ex Blues in the Sheffield lineup with Nathan Whitehead, Joe West, Brad Beatson and Harry Spooner amongst those within the Sheffield squad. It should certainly be a cracker

Form – WWDWL

League Standing – P10, W4, D5, L1, Pts 17, Pos 6th

Previous Meetings

The last meeting between the two sides was a preseason friendly at Westfield Lane last season, where the Blues ran out 2-1 winners.

Competitively, the last meetings between the sides were during the 2021/22 season when Frickley were relegated from the NPL. Both games took place within a week in March 2022, with Sheffield winning 1-0 at the Home of Football Stadium before the reversed fixture ended in a 2-2 draw at Westfield Lane
