Hopefully the cold snap is behind us and football in 2025 can begin, with our first fixture of 2025 set to be a trip to high flying Beverley Town in the NCEL, kick off is at 3:00pm
Blues News
It has been 3 weeks since the Blues last took to the pitch in the NCEL with the final game of 2024 ending in a 2-0 defeat away at Albion Sports.
It was a performance that had a lot of positives but didn’t turn into points, and the gap in games has given the Gaffer plenty of time to get the boys on the training pitch to iron out any cracks and hopefully start converting performances into points.
However, the cold snap has impacted all of the teams in the NCEL, resulting in no change to the Blues position in the league table, remaining 15th with 25 points with only 13 games to go in the season
Form (Last 5) – LWLLL
League Standing – P25, W7, D4, L14, Pts 25, Pos 15th
Our Opponents
Our first opponents of 2025 will be Beverley Town. The Beavers are enjoying a very strong first campaign at step 5, with a strong run of mid season form seeing them rise to 4th in the league table and firmly within the play off race
They are one of the few teams that have played a game in 2025, having put to bed a run of 3 games without a win with an emphatic 5-2 victory over Eccleshill United. Prior to a blip in December, they had gone 10 games without defeat in all competitions so will be a very tough opponent for the Blues to try to overcome.
Form (Last 5) – WLLDW
League Standing – P25, W13, D4, L8, Pts 43, Pos 4th
Previous Meeting
The Beavers snatched a dramatic late point against the Blues in the reverse fixture back in September as the two sides played out a very entertaining 3-3 draw
The Blues led 3 times during the game but were pegged back by Beverley on each occasion. A Jack Varley penalty was immediately cancelled out by a Cameron Connelly strike. Rob Guilfoyle then put Frickley back in front before Luka Suluburic equalised again on the stroke of half time.
Frickley went back in front through Jamie Tomlinson in the second half and had multiple chances to extend the lead that couldn’t be taken. And Beverley punished these misses when Jacob Hill scored a stoppage time equaliserto see the points shared between the two sides
