Match Preview – Friday 12th December 2025

The Blues return to the Wezzie for a bit of Friday night football as we welcome Bottesford Town for our latest NCEL Premier Division fixture, kick off is at 7:45pm
It’s 2 wins on the spin in all competitions for the Blues as the lads followed up the impressive 7-0 victory over Thackley with an equally impressive 4-1 victory over Albion Sports on Tuesday night
On a typically challenging winters night condition wise with swirling winds surrounding the pitch, the Blues stood up to master the elements and their opponents. A Tom Radley header and a Martyn Woolford chest in the space of 4 minutes put the lads in control.
Albion grabbed a lifeline when Thomas Pinter smashed in from 25 yards on the volley which threatened to shake the Blues resilience. However, Lucas Robinson soon restored the 2 goal lead just after half time and when Ponter received a straight red for a poor challenge on Tom Alngohuro, the lads managed the game superbly, Charlie Clegg’s strike in injury time just adding icing to the cake
The win saw Frickley climb to 12th in the NCEL table on 28 points and crucially no longer with the league’s worst goal difference!! The Blues are now also closer to the playoffs points wise than the relegation zone so plenty of optimism building as we look to climb further up the table.
Our visitors Bottesford Town start the weekend level on points with the Blues but one place above in 11th due to a superior goal difference. Like the Blues, they have been on a strong tun of form of late, winning their last 3 league matches and 4 of their last 5, the latest being a 1-0 victory over Horbury Town last time out.
The upturn for both teams came in the aftermath of a dramatic encounter between the two in the NCEL league cup back in October, with just the 13 goals between them as the Blues edged the match 7-6.
Frickley made the perfect start when Tom Radley headed them in front. But then Jack McMenemy stole the show with 4 goals in the first half to give the Poachers a 4-1 half time lead and when Okera Simmonds made it 5 shortly after half time, the Blues looked finished.
However, they had other ideas as 4 goals in 7 minutes from Tom Alngohuro, Martyn Woolford, Destiny Nnenanya and Sam Cable brought the score level. Bottesford landed a sucker punch of their own when Scott Matthews restored the lead. But Cable had the final say, scoring twice in injury time to seal the most dramatic of comebacks for Frickley. More of the same tomorrow perhaps?
After all that, it’s easy to forget that tomorrow presents Bottesford with a chance to do a league double over Frickley, after they won 1-0 in the reverse fixture back in August. Dylan Corbett with the only goal of the game to edge it for the home side.
So wrap up warm and come along as the lads look to continue their excellent form and pick up another huge 3 points. Admissions prices are the normal:
