The March madness continues as we’re on the road and head to Knaresborough Town for our latest NCEL fixture, kick off is at 3:00pm
It was a much improved performance on Tuesday night but the Blues were still unable to get back to winning ways in a 1-1 draw with Pickering. Morgan James got Frickley off to a flyer in the 2nd minute but the effort was cancelled out when Omar Sanyang’s cross hit Richard Collier and deflected in the Frickley goal for the equaliser. The Blues had plenty of chances to win the game but just fell short.
The point saw us remain 12th in the NCEL on 38 points so there’s still a chance to end the season well and secure a top half finish.
Our host Knaresborough currently sit just inside the top half in 10th place after back to back victories, the latest coming courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Eccleshill on Tuesday night.
This will be our 3rd meeting this season, the first coming back in August in the FA Cup at Manse Lane where Knaresborough came away 3-1 winners. An early first half brace from Danny Edwards was added to by Cameron Bedford in the second half. Rieves Boocock got a late consolation but it wasn’t enough as Knaresborough advanced on the cup.
The reverse league fixture in November at Westfield Lane was a match of madness as it resulted in a 4-4 draw. Knaresborough had raced into a 3-0 half time lead courtesy of goals from Ewan Gregson, Robert Guilfoyle and Lewis Stephens.
But Frickley fought back in the second half with Joshua Haigh, Keegan Townrow and Keenan Mannings pulling the game level. Knaresborough thought they’d won it when Bradley Walker scored in injury time but there was another late twist and Frickley were awarded a penalty and Lloyd Smith stuck it away with the last kick of the game to secure a dramatic point.
So come along and get behind the lads on the road. Live commentary through PodBean will be available if you’re unable to make the game, join us around 2:55pm for the coverage
Let’s hope for a strong performance and 3 points on the road
