Recap

Skegness 2 Frickley 0
The first of 6 (six!) preseason trips to the depths of Lincolnshire was to Skegness Town of the United Counties League.
Now I love Skeggy but their resolute refusal to move it closer to Yorkshire or to carve a dirty great motorway through Lincolnshire all puts me off going as often as I’d like.
The England game on telly later in the day meant for an ungodly early start, but despite getting stuck behind tractors and the tail back from the recovery of a burnt out car, all on single track roads, followed by the satnav taking us to Skeggy’s old ground (now a Marks & Spencers), the media team made it in good time. Time enough to see all the wonderful folk we hadn’t seen in months and time enough to string up our insane number of flags.
Skeggy’s new ground, The Vertigo Stadium, is generally a newly-built fenced off
pitch with a couple of those flat pack metal stands (one of which is pictured, top) with a nice new club house. The bar was open and the burgers were decent. It was good to be back!
We had met most of the new signings a couple of weeks earlier to get there pics for the website but it was great to see them run out in front of the Blue Faithful after so long.
The friendly served its purpose of getting some miles into the legs but an early and a late goal for the Lilywhites were enough to secure a 2-0 win. Of note were the fact that ex-Blue Cenk Acar was in the home side’s line up and that Martyn Woolford and Lee Frecklington both started for the Boys in Blue, er, Green.
