Recap

The Beautiful Game wasn’t so easy on the eye last night – it was more attrition than beautician – with both sides taking it in turns to have the upper hand.

New signing Zeph Thomas made his 3rd debut for the club & Tyler & Cenk returned to the starting line up. Also noticable was that Brad Wells was on the subs bench & he came on after the half time interval for Cuz as The Gaffer switched his formation a little.

In the first half it was all about the visitors who took a lead in the 8th minute – & The Azzurri didn’t appear to be at the races. But then came a switcheroo & it was Cleethorpes on the back foot as the Blues came into the ascendancy in the second half. The touchpaper that ignited Frickley was a horror tackle by a Cleethorpes defender on Liam King. It was so late it connected in March & so high that our physio Jordan had to set up base camp to reach it. It probably merited 2 straight reds as opposed to the one red that it received.

From then on it was all about the boys in blue & their reward came late on, in the 81st minute, when Cenk broke down the right side & got to the bye line & pulled the ball across for Zeph to crash home from close range. Not the most eye catching goal he’s ever scored but a massively important one for us.

Shortly afterwards we had a chance to win it as Nathan Hotte had a long range shot well saved & then Haze almost chipped the keeper but he managed to fingertip it away & to safety & the final whistle came soon after to end the game 1 each.

WEBMASTER MOTM – Tom Jackson kept us in the game in the first half & Todd & Nathan Hotte did well in front of him. Liam King was excellent in midfield even after the attempted amputation & it was great to see Zeph back in a blue shirt but I’m giving the Glitterball to Tyler Williams. Quality defending again & played much of the 2nd half as a wing back. Salut!

TWITTER POLL MOTM – Liam King took it with Tyler in 2nd, Tom Jackson next & Todd after him & Brad Mc also polled. Thank you to everyone who voted.

110 through the gate – you might have expected more for a game between play off contenders…..if you were sat at home watching Liverpool Schoolboys in the FA Cup, why not come & watch some proper football instead?

A bit of a break now & a chance to rest some weary limbs & clear up some injuries. We are next in action away to Wisbech on 15th February, see you there.
