Recap
Preseason Friendly:
Frickley 2 Brighouse 4
The Azzurri put in a battling performance but 3 late goals by the visitors eventually did for us.
It was even-Stevens for the first quarter of an hour as Luke Williams went very close for The Blues, hitting the side netting. And the triallist keeper got down smartly to push a Brighouse shot round the post. But from the corner Brighouse nodded in.
The remainder of the half saw plenty of nice interplay but with little to show for it in terms of goalscoring opportunities for either side. HT 0-1.
The Azzurri came out in the second half with all guns blazing. First, Zav netted but it was ruled offside (wrongly). Then Williams nipped in to slip the ball past the keeper but it didn’t quite have enough pace and the defender recovered to hook it off the line.
The goal finally came on the hour as Luke Williams was scythed down as he charged into the box. Jack Varley slotted the penner away, cool as you like.
The Blues were ahead less than 10 minutes later. Rob Guilfoyle scored straight from the corner, curling it in off the back post.
In the 70th minute, Brighouse chased down a wide ball then put away the resulting low cross to equalise.
Despite having to clear off the line in the closing stages, it looked as if The Blues might be on for a creditable draw. However, Brighouse put paid to that idea with 2 goals in the last 7 minutes.
The first came from a straightforward passing move and the second came as the result of follow up a saved long shot. FT 2-4.
We were better than the scoreline suggests and we certainly saw more to encourage than to disappoint. And remember, it’s still only preseason 😉
WEBMASTER MOTM – plenty to be positive about, particularly going forward. And so it is that the Glitterball goes jointly to the front three of Luke Williams, Rob Guilfoyle and Jack Varley. They look a force to be reckoned with. Felicitations, fellas!
