Recap
Now let’s see if I can remember what to do here – is this the bit where I give you loads of stats & match details????
The legendary Marvelous Marvin Hagler used to say that his mission in every fight was SAD (Seek & Destroy) & the Azzurri delivered a Hagler-esque tactical display that sent the Hebburn fans home feeling SAD,
The defensive unit were on point & Jake Askew played the 2nd half in an immaculate white suit (as a nod to John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever) & there wasn’t a mark on it at the end of the game
The Hebburn fans weren’t too enamoured with our tactics – the Azzurri fans were delighted with our tactics, especially with the Prince Of Darkness using all the weapons. Can’t see the Ginger Ninja getting on too many peoples Xmas card lists & that’s just the way we want it!
Not too much to report in the first half – a magic corner saw The Wolfman whip a shot narrowly wide. The main talking point was how the officials missed the incident when Brad Wells got chopped in half in the box – nothing given incredibly!
The 2nd half was similar to the 1st with the Blues maintaining their stranglehold on the game. Nathan Whitehead saw a dipping shot go just over the bar. On the hour, the ball got played to Bomber Brad Wells in the box, a defender tried to separate his foot from the rest of his leg, penalty awarded – Lee Frecks stroked it into the bottom corner, 1 nil.
Frecks Snr made a few changes – Danny Burns replaced Kieran, Reiss Harrison replaced Brad & Josh Burns replaced Kegan – possibly the first time 2 sets of brothers have played for the Blues in the same game?
Drama towards the end as Danny Burns got a red card (which the club may appeal) but the boys just got on with doing their jobs & saw out the game without any scares.
So a textbook ‘smash & grab’ raid on the home team saw us bring home the 3 points that we deserved.
WEBMASTER MOTM – very much a team performance this one, Everyone knew their job & did their job. So a shout out to the players that don’t often get a mention – Holli & Joe West did well as full backs, played football when needed, put it in row Z when needed. Kegan did his usual midfield destruction role. But I’m giving the first Glitterball of 2021/22 season to Brad Beatson – had we been doing live commentary (technical difficulties meant we weren’t able to) we’d have basically been saying ‘Brad Beatson tidies up in defence’ on a loop, well done Brad!
TWITTER POLL MOTM – Lee Frecks won the Twitter Poll vote, he was peerless in midfield all game. Close behind him was Nathan Whitehead, with Kieran & Brad also polling votes. Thank you to everyone who voted, all the votes get collated towards a Player Of The Month award
