Recap

You can keep the Premier League & Virgil Van Dijk (any relation to Dick?) & Vincent Kompany (any relation to Bad?) & The Etihad & The Emirates & Sky & BT Sports & all that goes with it – give me an absolute battle played in a cup tie atmosphere at the Wezzie every day of the week! Both sides went at it toe to toe & despite the ref waving yellows around like confetti there was hardly a bad challenge all game. Stamford manager got a red card – probably for saying what everyone else was thinking….

Yesterday morning, Nathan Whiteheads team lost to a dubious goal in Fergie Time & Ken thought it was omen & yesterday was going to be a bad day

I had the equal & opposite reaction – I had to pick a parcel up from the Post Office, got parked no problem, no queue in the Post Office, straight in & out, then shook hands with the legend that is Toby Foster (Phoenix Nights & Radio Sheffield) in the Asda. I knew yesterday was going to be A Good Day.

Take it away Ken….

Spirited defending by the home side saw them end high-flying Stamford’s long unbeaten run.
The opening minutes saw both sides attacking hard, probing for an early opening but it took 20 minutes before the first clear cut chance fell to Stamford. Winning a free kick just outside the box, Ollie Brown-Hill curling his shot wide.
Shortly after, Sean Wright got on the end of a corner but could only hit Frickley’s side netting.
The home side broke at pace through Jacob Hazel in the 30th minute, the defender looked like he handled but the officials gave nothing. Stamford went straight down the other end for Tom Siddons to nod just over the bar.
The rest of the half was a war of attrition that took the game into half time scoreless.
The second period was less than minute old when Hazel fires narrowly wide for the hosts. Then a couple of minutes later Daniels boss Graham Drury was sent to the stands for comments made to the linesman.
The next 10 minutes were end to end but chances were at a premium. Then on the hour, Jonny Margetts sprung the offside trap and finished with aplomb from 15 yards to open the scoring for the hosts.
The goal celebrations were barely over before Hazel had a gilt-edged chance to double the lead but the ball crept past the upright.
There followed a period of intense pressure from Stamford with Cosmos Matwasa and Jordan Cooke both blazing over. Tom Jackson in the Frickley net made a pair of decent stops too.
Liam King went close for Frickley in the last minute
The home side’s rearguard action was enough to see them home to take the points.

Me again – obviously the big downer on the afternoon was Brad Wells injury. He won’t be shaking many cocktails in the Turquoise Teapot for a few days due to his elbow injury. Brad is feeling better this morning & has asked us to thank everyone who has sent him messages. He also wants to say a massive thanks to Lee Gray who he says ‘did an amazing job’ – he’s one of our own is Lee.

It was a great atmosphere at the Wezzie yesterday – let’s do it again shall we!!!

Here’s what the Gaffer & Tyler Williams thought about the game – there’s a naughty word in the Tyler interview, my apologies. That’s not the man I am & I will learn from it……

WEBMASTER MOTM – Frecks nailed it in his post match interview when he said every player was a 9 out of 10. I want to mention Liam King – he’s had a long spell out with injury but on his 3rd game back he absolutely gaffered it yesterday. However there can only be one MOTM for me & that’s Tyler Williams – brilliant display by him

TWITTER POLL MOTM – thank you to everyone who voted & you agreed with me. Tyler takes the Twitter poll, followed closely by Jonny Margetts (who scored his 17th for us yesterday), then Liam King & Nathan Hotte. All votes get collated to give us our January Player of the Month so keep voting people

238 through the gate – thank you for supporting the club & making a right noise in the 2nd half.

A week off now until we travel to Loughborough next Saturday – see you there
