Recap

A heavy pitch & a lightweight second half put paid to any aspirations that we might have had about upsetting the apple cart

It was a horrendous journey up for all concerned – with the A1 resembling a curling rink in some places (well done to our Olympians BTW) – but the game was played under blue skies. However the Azzurri soon had a black cloud hanging over them as Marske took an early lead. But the boys battled back & matched their high flying opponents – the Prince of Darkness had a good chance on his 2nd debut & Big Dev had the chance of the half from close range, but if anything he hit it too cleanly whereas a scuff would have found the back of the net.

We lost Jimmy Matthews to a nasty head injury – & he had been pivotal for us up to that point

After 10 minutes of the 2nd half, we cleared the ball off the line but the liner decided it had crossed the line & that was 2 nil & we weren’t coming back from that. We made too many individual & collective mistakes 2nd half & we weren’t anywhere near the levels of the first half – & you can’t do that against teams like Marske

To put things in perspective – Marskes front 2 have a weekly salary that is almost equal to our entire weekly playing budget – that is what we are up against. That’s not an excuse, just a statement of fact

WEBMASTER MOTM – despite what I’ve just said there were a number of positives. The Bobby Faulkner show rolled into town once again – despite him getting a boot to the head, he just got himself patched up & carried on doing what he keeps doing. Tyreece had another strong showing & Tyler did well. The Prince Of Darkness battled hard up top, marked by a Danny South lookalike! But I’m giving the Glitterball to the skipper – another excellent performance by Holli – the armband has taken him to a different level

TWITTER POLL MOTM – lot of love in the house for The Falk! Kieran Wells polled good votes too with Tyreece & Josh Scott also getting votes. Thank you to everyone who voted

A good number of Frickley fans in the crowd – we really want to say thank you to everyone who travelled

Here is what the Gaffer thought about proceedings

Here is a link to Karen Harland (Marske photographer) photo album from the game – including some of our Ruth with her North East Fan Club

Next up we are at home to Dunston on Saturday – we really want you all to come & support us & get behind the boys
