Recap
A few weeks ago we put a little run together, culminating with the win at SPS & I thought we might be turning a corner – but as someone once said ‘Expectation is just disappointment waiting to happen’….
A massive reshuffle yesterday as we had West, Stacey, Beatson, Sax & Piteu Crouz missing due to self isolating, injury or unavailability – everything appears to be against us at the minute
Here’s what a scientist thought:
It was a covid-depleted Frickley that were beaten 1-0 by a workmanlike Hebburn Town in the fog at Westfield Lane yesterday..
The visitors started brightly but the first clear cut opportunity didn’t present itself until the 27th minute when a curling Hebburn shot hit the upright. Frickley’s first real chance came a minute before the break when Michael Hollingsworth intercepted 40 yards out. Holli played it wide to Brad Wells who beat his man then squared back to Holli but the ball just evaded his outstretched boot. The second period started with a Ben Morris free kick reaching Frickley’s Wells in the box and his strike shaved the top of the bar. The visibility noticeably worsened so it was hard to make out the protagonists other than to say they didn’t get too close to either goal for the next 20 minutes until Hebburn’s Amar Purewal headed a looping cross wide in the 70th minute. Hebburn took the lead 5 minutes later when Daniel Groves got his header on target. Frickley hit the post from a corner with 6 minutes to go. Dev Morton and Leon Mettam went close in the final minutes, and Hebburn had to clear off the line, but it was all to no avail for the home side.Back to me – I really feel for the players & management team at the moment. The players are putting plenty of effort in, but the application of the effort is a little awry at times which then leads to frustration – bottom line, we’re not scoring & it’s killing us
Here’s what the Gaffer had to say
175 through the gate on a pretty horrendous day – we’d like to thank you all for supporting the football club, to quote David Soul ‘Don’t give up on us baby’
WEBMASTER MOTM – I thought the defensive unit was our strongest area yesterday. Chappers came back punching & dominated his area. Nathan Whitehead was outstanding alongside Burnsy & Tyreece. The engine room ticked over as per usual with Kegan & Holli but I’m giving the Glitterball to Tyler. He was up & down the pitch all game – well done Ty
TWITTER POLL MOTM – Nathan W came out on top, followed by Tyler, Kegan & Holli. Metts also polled after his cameo appearance. Thanks for voting
Next up we are away to Ponte Colls for the El Classicoal on 27th December – let’s have massive numbers of Azzurri getting behind the boys – they need to feel the love right now
