Recap

Bono clearly knows nothing about local derbies on New Years Day – no way was this going to all quiet & it was the Azzurri who had plenty to shout about at the final whistle.

It was a game full of blood & thunder, with skill & guile mixed in too – credit to the ref who I think only booked 2 or 3 players, in another game about 10 go into the book incorrectly as it was just full of solid challenges – like they all used to be about 20 years ago.

Lots of midfield endeavour & thrust & parry before the Blues took the lead – a long ball forward isn’t dealt with by the Worksop defender & Jonny Margs skips away from him & into the box. The Surgeon coolly slots it past the keeper for 1 nil on 21 minutes. Our first goal of the new year & the new decade – remember that, it will be in Big Fat Quiz of the Decade in 2029…..

More of the same for the rest of the 1st half but with no addition to the score

Jake Scott picked up a bad injury early in the half & was replaced by Sherbs who went into midfield with Big Dog Davie moving to right back & Nathan Hotte dropping into the back line. This didn’t upset our rhythm & on 69 minutes we got a corner. Some great interplay by Davie & Haze set up an unmarked Brad Wells to fire home from close range.

That was pretty much game over as a contest but there was still time for another Frickley goal. Margs bursts into the box again & gets chopped down. He jumps up to take the penner himself & completely deceives the keeper for our 3rd & his 2nd & it ends 3 nil.

A very solid performance by the boys in a feisty, atmospheric game.

390 through the gate with a huge Frickley contingent – it means a lot to the Gaffer & the players to have you all travelling week in & week out. But when they are playing like they are, why wouldn’t you want to watch them????

WEBMASTER MOTM – huge shout to the defensive unit again, clean sheet & TJ hasn’t had a save to make but dominated his area on crosses. Currie was on top form, playing a little further forward. The front 3 were horrible to play against (again). Yesterday I noted that there is one player who rarely gets a mention but is at the heart of everything we do – the Glitterball goes to Michael Hollingsworth, well done sir.

TWITTER POLL MOTM – strikers get the glory!!! Margs takes it by some distance with Nathan Hotte, Tyler, Todd Jordan & Holli also polling. Thank you to everyone who voted once again.
