Match Preview – Saturday 2nd August 2025 – FA Cup

The Blues are on the road to Wembley tomorrow! We travel to Brighouse Town for an FA Cup Extra Preliminary round tie, hoping to continue our positive start to the season and win our first game in the FA Cup since 2021!

Blues News

Last Saturday’s 2-1 triumph over Albion Sports was very encouraging, considering the strength of the opposition and the absentees from the Frickley squad.

Some of those missing will be back in contention for this cup game and new signings Cody Collins and Sam Tingle will also be available.

Our Opponents 

Brighouse Town play at step 4 in the Northern Premier League Division One East. Last season they finished 19th out of 22 but received a reprieve from relegation to retain their NPL place.

Tomorrow’s FA Cup tie is their first competitive fixture of 2025/26. Preseason form is a fickle mistress but Brighouse’s form is L D W W L L.

Previous Meetings

Our last competitive meeting with Brighouse was at St Giles Road in the NPL Division One East in December 2021. Rio Molyneaux netted an equaliser for The Blues after an early opener for the hosts. In the second half, Brighouse eased to a 3-1 win.

FA Cup

In last season’s FA Cup, both sides fell at the first hurdle, the extra preliminary round. The Blues went down 2-0 at Thackley. Meanwhile, Brighouse were dumped out of the cup by Barnoldswick Town, a goalless stalemate at Barlick was followed by a 5-3 defeat on penalties after a 2-2 draw at home. 

The winners of the tie will be away in the next round, the preliminary round, facing the winners of the game between Winsford United and West Didsbury & Chorlton on the weekend of 16th August.
