The sun rises in the morning, sets in the evening & the Young Azzurri win again!

Martin Beaumonts boys really are a tour de force this season – 11 games, 10 wins 1 draw, 1 more win required to become league champions at the first time of asking

Frickley Athletic U23’s 3
Farsley Celtic U21’s 1

Frickley’s U23’s continued with their unbeaten run with a hard fought victory against Farsley Celtic U21’s to make it 10 wins & 1 draw from 11 games played.

Frickley who were missing quite a few players started brightly and Josh Haigh rattled the cross bar with a far post header from a great Brandon Fearn cross. They didn’t have to wait long though to take the lead when Ben Ellison-Tope burst through midfield leaving three players behind to be fouled on the edge of the box, up stepped Frickley’s talisman Wade Ripley to superbly bend the ball around the defensive wall into the bottom corner.
As the game settled both teams had several half chances, Lewis Fox playing his 3rd game in one day, made one great save somehow saving the ball on rebound after it had struck the foot of the post. The home side increased their lead just before half time when the talented Wade Ripley was causing havoc in the opposition box and he was brought down for a penalty which he confidently dispatched into the bottom corner for a 2-0 half time lead.

Second half was all about game management as the rain started to fall, Frickley’s defence comprising of Ross Nowodny, Josh Lockwood, Nathan Fletcher & Harry Alexander all stood tall and restricted the hard working visitors to only a few chances.

Lee Jordan showed his versatility by swapping his left back role to play centre mid along side calm & commanding Callum Beaumont who tidying up everything in front of the back four.

Mid way through the tight second half Wade Ripley burst through on goal, he skillfully skipped past the keeper but was forced wide to see his shot hit the foot of the post to prevent him scoring a well deserved hat-trick.

Farsley to their credit never gave in and scored a good goal when Frickley failed to clear an in swinging cross, 2-1, maybe a grandstand finish?!

The home side responded by introducing all 3 subs the returning Mason Kilmartin, Taine Clement & Ryan Clements who also showed his versatility by playing centre forward and caused havoc with his willing unselfish running. Ryan Clements got on the end of a Ben Ellison-Tope corner which wasn’t cleared and Nathan Fletcher gleefully smashed the ball home from close range to seal the hard fought victory

Special mention to Wade Ripley who was unplayable at times, Lee Jordan who impressed in midfield, Ben Ellison-Tope never stopped running and being involved constantly in the game, Harry Alexander making his full debut at full back (another one to keep your eye on) and Bob Smith MOTM Nathan Fletcher (pictured) who was outstanding in the heart of the defence.
