Our U23s first league game under Martin Beaumonts tutelage proved to be a very decent game to watch against opposition who proved to be vastly improved from the team that played us in a friendly a few weeks ago
It was end to end stuff before WBA took the lead from a corner but that fired the Young Azzurri into action & pretty soon after Haigh stuck it home from close range, a proper poachers goal.
Then we were treated to something special – Sam Cullingworth hit a magnificent cross field ball & Ripley hit a volley that you had to see to believe. Reminiscent of the David Platt goal at the World Cup all those years ago…..only better!
2nd half was more of the same – Ripley & Haigh combined to give us the 3rd goal (Ripley provider, Haigh scorer) but then WBA made it 3-2 after a defensive lapse (probably the only one of the game) but Ripley & Haigh did their things once again to give us a 4-2 lead, Haigh got his hat trick. A couple more chances for Haigh to increase his tally but 4-2 was the final score.
A very good win & very much deserved
Plenty to enjoy watching these boys – get yourselves to a game some time soon – you won’t regret it
Obviously the goalscorers were the names on everyones lips but it was a strong team performance that meant Haigh & Ripley were able to shine
