RIASA 0 Frickley Athletic U23s 4
An initially more workmanlike performance by the Frickley U23s, but with travel disruption, keeper not arriving till half time, late drop outs and poor weather conditions, they were certainly more than happy with the 3 points and a clean sheet.
Brandon Fearn came in as the stand in keeper and 17 year old Taine Clement made his full debut in attack. Frickley had to be patient early on creating several half chances which were all dealt with by the home keeper and it looked like it would take something special to beat him. This came half way through the first half when good chasing back from Taine Clement resulted in Ben Ellison-Tope latching onto the loose ball to strike an unstoppable right foot shot from the edge of the box in off the inside of the post.
Frickley were now up and running, they had several chances to increase their lead through the hard working Josh Haigh and Wade Ripley was a constant threat. Ripley had a close range shot superbly saved and the impressive Taine Clement also fired over when in a good position.
Ben Ellison-Tope got Frickley’s second goal just before half time when he made a signature burst forward with the ball and exchanged passes with Wade Ripley before coolly slotting the ball past the advancing home keeper.
The keeper Harry Ambler arrived late due to a puncture on the motorway but took his place in goals in the second half. 10 mins in and Ben Ellison-Tope turned provider as he crossed a wide free kick to the far post for defender Danny Selwood to volley home from close range.
The visitors were now in cruise control and enjoying playing some good fast flowing football. Wiil Handley had also come on to make his debut and looked at home in midfield showing some really nice touches. Frickley finished off the hard working RIASA side when Ben Ellison-Tope completed a well deserved hat trick, again picking up the ball in midfield and driving forward before firing low into the bottom corner and he fully deserved his man of the match award.
