RIASA London 1 Frickley 5 (U23)
Finally Frickley U23s season started with a visit to Leeds to play RIASA London and they returned with maximum points after a great 5-1 victory.
Frickley had 5 new signings in the squad and they soon settled in as the Young Azzurri started the brighter of the two sides. Several good opportunities were created but the final pass just lacked their usual quality.
The visitors took the lead midway through the 1st half as Matty Hughes won a penalty when he was fouled in the box. He confidently took the ball and cooly slotted in home.
The goal seemed to settle Frickley down as they scored 2 more superb team goals before the break. Magic man Wade Ripley scored one with a curling shot from. The edge of the box. Then he created the goal of the game for Josh Cummins, after great link up play with Isaac Jeffreys and a mazy run to make it 3-0 at half time.
Frickley started slowly again in the 2nd period which was credit to RIASA London. Wade Ripley hadn’t finished though as he created two more. More super football as Rip passed to Hughesy, back to Rip, he skinned the fullback and crossed from the corner flag, right onto the foot of debutant Jake Kirkham to score at the far post. Then Will Harling was quick to a rebound after Wade had struck the bar and scored a towering header to make it five to Frickley.
RIASA did score a good goal from long range to beat Jacob Harper in between Frickley’s 2nd half goals.
Not a perfect performance by the visitors but it was a decent start with plenty to build on.
The Bob Smith motm had to go to Wade Ripley as the Bretton Baggio was involved in all the goals and scored a great goal himself.
