Frickley Athletic U23s 1 I2i United 2
Unfortunately the unbeaten run had to end one day and last night was the night against a decent i2i Utd side.
Frickley weren’t at their best but were probably unfortunate to lose their long unbeaten run, a draw maybe would have been a fairer result.
The visitors’ keeper was outstanding throughout, thwarting the home side on numerous occasions in the first half, Josh Cummins, Wade Ripley and the skilful Harry Alexander all had good chances to score but couldn’t find a way past the in-form keeper.
With the 1st half looking like ending goalless, 2 late goals were scored. The 1st was a great goal from Matty Hughes who ran onto a Lee Jordan through ball to fire powerfully past the advancing keeper.
With half time looming, i2i scored an equaliser when an inswinging corner went straight in, back to all square.
The 2nd half couldn’t have started worse for the home side as they lost possession and the visiting striker broke clear to fire superbly into the bottom corner.
Frickley had most of the second half to reply but unfortunately they couldn’t find a way past the impressive visiting keeper and some good defending.
As the home side pushed to hang on to their unbeaten run, gaps were left at the back and defenders Ross Nowodny, Thierry Hendrickson, Ryan Clements, Callum Beaumont and man of the match Lee Jordan had to make several last ditch challenges to stop a further break away goal.
But eventually time ran out and the visitors did a professional job in hanging on to take the 3 points.
