It’s March 2018, we’re 2 nil down at home to Lincoln United, it’s snowing – who do you send for????
We are delighted to announce the signing of Danny ‘The Heat’ Burns!!!! Danny joins us after a recent spell at Stafford Rangers & boy are we excited about that!!!!
The Heat is going to be wearing the Captains armband too.
I had a chat to him about, not only are we excited, so is he – here’s what he said:
1 – tell us a bit about yourself. What position you play, what type of player are you & who have you played for previously
DB: I’m a 6ft 5 old school centre half that will head it, kick it, put my body on the line to stop a goal and I’d like to think I can play a little when needed and chip in with the odd goal every now and then. I have a played all over at: Cambridge United, Buxton, Gateshead, Nuneaton, Stafford Rangers and numerous loans which included my spell at Frickley.
2 – what about life outside football – job / family / other interests etc
DB: I am just starting a new job as a fitness instructor at Bannatyne Health Club and Spa and the rest of my time at the moment is either in the gym or trying to get on the property ladder with my Mrs. I have a younger brother which you will all get the pleasure of knowing over the next season
3 – you’ll be wearing the Captains armband this forthcoming season. As a player you put your head where others wouldn’t put their feet, the sort of commitment The Gaffer will be looking for as skipper, but who will you be modelling your captaincy on?
Are you going to be giving ‘em a roasting or putting an arm round their shoulder or a delicate blend of the 2?
DB: I would probably say modelling it on John Terry as I have looked up to him since the age of 6. I reckon it will be a blend of both, with me giving motivation to the team and individuals however if someone isn’t pulling their weight or slacking then they will know about it.
4 – I understand that you were part of the car pool with Brad Grayson when you were both at Stafford – how did you manage to survive that???
DB: hahaha it was always a memorable journey with Grayson and the other lads in the car school, we made the time go quick on the journey with many stories, chatting nonsense and the odd horse racing and bingo sessions
5 – how did the phone call go when Frecks got in touch about rejoining us permanently
DB: We was both singing from the same hymn sheet to be honest, we had a good chat about what we both wanted from the forthcoming season and we agreed on pretty much everything and when the opportunity came for me to be captain of the club it was an easy decision to make
6 – do you feel that you’ve got unfinished business at the Wezzie after being part the team that lost to Stamford in the playoff semi in 2018? (it was never a penalty btw)
DB: erm a little bit yeah as I felt that with the team we had and how we were performing we should have got promotion and have no idea how we didn’t manage to win that game against Stamford, some poor decisions in that game as well! However I’m confident we’ll be able to go one better this season
7 – you’re still highly thought of at The Lane, the 5-3 Lincoln game in the snow where you scored a couple in 2018 sticks in the mind (the Media Team watch the You Tube highlights every Friday night!), but do you have any other highlights of your last spell here?
DB: that game is very hard to top, it had everything including a very very rare brace from myself (Danny is pictured scoring the second goal), the only other game I can remember from that season was the 6-0 away win at belper, it was an all round dominant performance from back to front. Might’ve even got on the scoresheet in that game as well 😉
8 – you’re another player with Conny North experience (with Lowestoft, Bishop’s Stortford, Nuneaton and Gateshead) so who’s the best player you’ve played with or against and why?
DB: erm a couple of players that stick in my mind would be Luke Chadwick and Carl Baker and my teammate this season Lee Frecklington as they all have real quality. The best player I’ve had to play against and marked would probably be Ricardo Fuller, even though he was in the latter stages of his career you could still see his quality and why he’d scored many goals in the Premier League
9 – what are your hopes for the team, & for yourself, this season
DB: I think the whole squads hopes for the season, not just mine, is to gain promotion by any means necessary and I’m confident that we can achieve that goal. For myself I would like to lead the squad to as many wins and good results as possible and help the defence to get as many clean sheets as we can. Maybe pop up with a goal every now and then wouldn’t be bad either
10 – final one, who is the worst dressed player you’ve shared a dressing room with!
DB: hahaha worst dressed would have to be Jack Sherratt from when I was at Stafford, some very questionable and dodgy gear was produced by him which I’m sure included a snake skin shirt and a leather hairy biker jacket.
Welcome back to the Sika Everbuild Wezzie Danny Burns
