Turns out that the media team aren’t the only award winners down at The Wezzie. The Frickley Athletic Community Foundation, headed up by John Stancliffe, has only gone and won the award for Outstanding Community Engagement at the Wakefield Business Awards!
Our amazing Head of Foundation John Stancliffe was presented with the award by former Calendar presenter Christine Talbot at the awards ceremony, held at CAPA College in Wakefield, last night.
John is pictured here (right) with Frickley Athletic directors, Penny Wall (centre with the award itself) and Phil McCroakam (left). Don’t they all scrub up well!
Penny told us “It was a great night at the Wakefield Business Awards with Frickley Athletic Community Foundation. So proud of John Stancliffe and the whole Foundation winning their category award, Outstanding Community Engagement. It’s richly deserved by John, the trustees and all the coaches. Frickley Athletic Football Club ain’t just about kicking a ball around! Very excited for the next chapter…”
If you don’t already know, you might be asking what Frickley Athletic Community Foundation does. Well, it currently helps up to 2000 people throughout the Wakefield district. The Community Foundation works in nine local schools delivering sporting activities, breakfast, lunchtime and after school clubs, provides 700 free meals and runs holiday clubs every school holiday. Working in partnership with HEY, the Community Foundation helps children and young people in our community with suicide prevention, and dealing with depression, PTSD, bullying, stress and phobias. The Community Foundation runs an Active Through Football scheme, a programme targeting 16 to 24 year olds, women of any age, and men over 35, where they deliver a broad range of activities (not just based around football, despite the name). They organise mother and toddler groups, soccercise exercise and walking football. And they work in local nursing homes and independent living schemes including a dementia support group.
It’s rumoured that the Community Foundation has also found a way to stop time itself so they can fit in all that unbelievable work!
And that hard work doesn’t stop. Besides all the fantastic existing projects, the plans for 2023 are even more exciting with further and substantial support for the mental wellbeing of our young people, the creation of a food bank, a warm hub and a youth club, as well as developing girls and womens football at the club.
If anyone would like to get involved in any way, as a sponsor, partner, director or volunteer, please get in touch. Let’s continue making a difference together.
Huge congratulations again to John and all involved from everyone at the club!
