Summer Signing – Martyn Woolford

The Woolfman is back once again!! We’re delighted to announce our latest summer signing is none other than forward Martyn Woolford who returns for his 3rd spell with the club.
Wooly first played for the Blues during the 2005/6 season having signed from Glasshoughton Welfare. He played a key role as the Blues finished 2nd in the NPL Premier that season.
His performances attracted attention from the higher leagues as he moved onto York City before helping Scunthorpe get promoted to the Championship, scoring the winner in the 2008 play off final in the process.
A number of moves amongst Championship clubs with Wooly having spells at Bristol City, Millwall and Sheffield United before starting to work his way back down the leagues via Fleetwood Town and Grimsby.
He had further brief spells in non league with Hyde, Boston and Gainsborough before returning to the Blues for the 2021/22 season. He retired after picking up an injury in our 6-0 defeat away at Dunston that season but has decided to come back and give football one last crack.
He has certainly still looked sharp in his preseason performances so far, picking up a goal and an assist in the 3-2 defeat to Grimsby Borough before another strong display in the 5-0 victory over Emley last night.
The Gaffer had the below to say about the signing of Wooly:
’I played against Wooly many years ago, then he went on to play for the likes of Millwall, Bristol City and Sheffield United. He’s been with us the last couple of games and really enjoyed it.
He’s already brought a lot to the group and will help the younger lads throughout the season. His pedigree speaks for itself and to come and play for myself and Crooksy is testament to the person he is. I appreciate his support and look forward to working with him.
Welcome back Wooly!!
