Our U23s vs ilkley u23s – a brief match report

Frickley U23’s 10
Ilkley Town U23s 0

WHAT TIME IS IT?? TWICE!!!!

After 2 consecutive defeats, 1 member of the Frickley Media Team said he was going to Scotland & he wasn’t coming back until the Young Azzurri scored 10 – he’s setting off home in the morning…….

We were looking for a positive performance & a result to get the season back on track. Unfortunately for Ilkley Town U23’s our young guns turned on the style last night with easily their best performance so far.

Lucas Brown (remember the name!) set the night off when he ran onto a through ball from Bailey Cowsell to coolly slot the ball home past the advancing keeper.

Then it became the Charlie Clegg show, he was returning to the side for the 1st time in probably 18 months and he certainly made his mark with a superb perfect hat-trick within the 1st half.

His 1st goal was a soaring header at the far post from a Lucas Brown corner, his second was created by his own hard work with a forceful run down the right, after a goal mouth scramble he somehow popped up at the far post to twist & turn to score left footed into the bottom corner. His 3rd was created by quick thinking from Spencer Moses when he played a quick free kick to release Charlie to go 1 v 1 with the opposing GK & he completed his perfect hat-trick will a great right foot finish, he certainly scores when he wants in this mood.

4-0 at half time.

The second half was very similar to the first half with Frickley totally dominant, the one change was it became the Lucas Brown show (told you!)

He got another assist for goal no 5 when he delivered another corner for Spencer Moses to fire home a bullet header.

Leading goal scorer Bailey Cowsell got in on the act scoring no 6, curling a beauty in off the post from just inside the box.

That brief hiatus in the Lucas Brown show ended when he scored goal no 7 with a superb left footed shot his weaker foot, into the far top corner from just outside of the box.

Ben Jennings broke clear from full back to superbly play a slide rule pass between defenders for Lucas Brown to fire home into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick & the home sides eighth goal, some night he was having.

Lucas Browns night wasn’t over as he charged down a back pass with the unfortunate visiting goal keeper to see the ball rebound of him into the empty net to score his 4th goal.

The home sides total dominant performance was complete when yes you have guessed it Lucas Brown played in Bailey Cowsell to score his second goal & Frickley’s 10th to complete a quite remarkably around team performance from the young Frickley side. 👏

It is only right to mention all the players involved last night as everyone contributed starting with Dylan Sefton was making his 1st appearance of the season in goals, his handling & kicking was spot on all game, defenders Ben Jennings, James Nicklin, Lincoln Gleadall & Tyler Sheard all performed well, they didn’t switch off all 90 mins to ensure a clean sheet was achieved. The three midfield generals were captain Tom Cotson, Spencer Moses & 16 years old Freddie Dale who were all superb in pressing, tackling & being constantly involved throughout the 90 minutes. The starting front 3 scored 9 goals between them – enough said eh?
Substitute’s Seth Baker, Jacob Camozzi & Taine Clement all ensured the quality didn’t drop from the home sides performance when they all came on for the final 30 mins, overall a very enjoyable evening.

We must mention our opponents who obviously had a difficult night but credit to them all as they never gave up or threw the towel in – if they had thrown the towel in you suspect that one of our front 3 would have volleyed it home, top bins!!

Bob Smith MOTM went to (surprise surprise) Lucas Brown who certainly had a night to remember scoring 4 goals & assisting in 3 others. Outstanding effort Lucas well done mate !!!!
