Our U23s vs Dearne & district U23s PSF – a brief match report

Frickley U23s 3
Dearne & District U23s 3

Our Young Azzurri played out their final PSF of 2025/26 last night in readiness for the new season. The weather wasn’t great, so much so that one of the Media Team – seemingly made of tissue paper – didn’t venture out in case he had to stand in the cold & wet at the 4G next to The Wez…….there’s not much you say about that.

Luckily the Jeune Bleus are made of better stuff – a bit of precipitation won’t put them off – & so they completed pre-season on a miserable night to end with a record of 2 wins, 1 draw & a defeat, our final game was at home to Dearne & District U23s.

An entertaining game that saw Dearne come from behind twice to earn a draw. Frickley certainly started the brighter & dominated the opening half hour scoring 2 great goals. The 1st goal was a lovely move when Lincoln Gleadall broke clear from defence to find Bailey Cowsell who skillfully played a slide rule pass between defenders to find Harry McCudden who didn’t need to break stride before he confidently finding the bottom corner.

Tyler Sheard then scored an early contender for goal of the season when he fired a unstoppable left footer from 20+ yards into the top corner, the hosts were well on top & had several chances to increase their lead.

Dearne to their credit never gave up & in the final 10 mins scored 2 goals to bring the scores level at halftime.

The second half was more open and both sides created several good chances to score.

16 year old Freddie Dale was introduced at half time and he burst through on the right hand side & was brought down by the advancing goal keeper, penalty to Frickley. Up stepped young Freddie to coolly stroke the ball home 3-2 to Frickley (16 years old BTW – the laptop I’m using right now is older than Freddie!!)

Again Dearne fought back to score an equaliser.

Both teams had chances to win but neither could take them so the game finished even – a great preseason run out for both teams

Paul Mann MOTM went to Freddie Dale – another young lad that has a bright future and is a great addition to our talented squad.
