Tom Claisse make’s his Westfield Lane bow as Frickley manager with a Bonfire Night fixture against Thackley in the NCEL, kick off is at 7:45pm

Blues News

The Blues left it late on Saturday in Jack Varley and Lewis Binns’s last game as interim managers with a 1-1 draw away at Winterton Rangers.

New manager Tom Claisse watched on as a Callum Brook header in stoppage time rescued a point when it looked like the home side were going to take a much needed victory. Frickley had returning keeper Harrison Davison-Hale to thank for keeping the scores level at half time as he made a number of fine saves to deny Rangers.

The Blues were much improved after the break and dominated the second half but struggled to create the real telling moment in front of goal to edge ahead. So when Winterton went in front from a corner with 20 minutes remaining, it looked like being a frustrating afternoon before Brook stepped up to place his header in the bottom corner.

The result saw Frickley rise to 15th in the NCEL table on 19 points and crucially maintained the 7 point buffer to the bottom 3 sides whilst also staying in the very tight mid-table pack. Claisse will be hoping for a couple of strong results to start his tenure and to propel the Blues up the table.

Our Opponents

It’s a tough test though for Tom’s first outing in the Frickley dugout as high flying Thackley are the visitors to Westfield Lane.

Thackley come into the fixture in 4th place and firmly amongst the play off chasers. They are on a run of 3 wins in a row in the league and 4 games unbeaten in total since a 1-0 away defeat to Pickering at the start of October. They did, however, lose to Horbury in the West Riding County Cup during that time.

The Dennyboys came away 2-1 winners at Tadcaster on Saturday courtesy of goals from Antony Brown and Ben Grech-Brooksbank, who also made his 150th appearance for the club in the process. They will be looking for a 5th game unbeaten in a row tomorrow.

Previous Meetings

This will be the 2nd time this season that the Blues and Dennyboys have met, with Thackley coming away 2-0 winners in the FA Cup back in August.

Frickley had started the game strongly before a Ben Grech-Brooksbank penalty just before half time swung the match for the home side who were much stronger in the 2nd half and secure the win through Jake Holcombe 10 minutes from time.
