The Blues are back on the road after a succession of home matches as we head to Barton Town for our latest NCEL fixture, kick off is at 7:45pm

Blues News

After a short run of 3 games unbeaten, it is now back to back league defeats for the Blues following Saturday’s 4-2 defeat against Penistone Church. Frickley made a lightning start with Jack Varley scoring the opener after only 3 minutes. But defensive frailties showed themselves yet again and Penistone soon overpowered the Blues to take a deserved 3 points.

However, everything needs to be viewed in context. Saturday’s game means that we’ve played all 4 of last season’s top 6 that weren’t promoted in our opening 6 matches, picking up points against 2 of them and causing issues for all of them. There are no easy games in the NCEL but there are easier games and hopefully some more points are just around the corner.

The defeat on Saturday meant that the Blues dropped to 11th in the early NCEL table at the time of writing but could kick off tomorrow night in 12th depending on results on Monday night. However one positive result could make a massive difference at this stage with 3 points covering 4th through to 15th.

The Blues also remain unbeaten away from home in the league so far this season and unbeaten on a midweek as well if we’re looking for some positive omens ahead of Tuesday’s fixture!!

Our Opponents

It’s a trip to Humberside next for the Blues as Barton Town are our hosts for this NCEL encounter. Barton have had a mixed start to the league campaign, interrupted largely by positive results in the cup competitions that have seen them only play 3 league fixtures so far with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 defeat so far, sitting in 18th place in the table.

Like the Blues, the Swans came into the new campaign with a new management team and a fresh looking squad from last season. Manager Anthony Bowsley has retained the services of the spine of last season’s side with the Waudby brothers, Tom and Will, in attack, ex Blue Craig King in midfield and stalwart centre backs Fraser Papprill and Josh Lacey in defence, but has also made on notable additions elsewhere with plenty of NPL as well as NCEL experience so it promises to be another tough test.

Saturday saw their FA Cup campaign come to an end with a 1-0 home defeat to Rugby Town. This followed a 2-1 defeat to Stockport Town the previous week in the FA Vase. The Swans haven’t played a league game since 13th August due to cup commitments, that was a 3-1 defeat away at Bottesford.

Previous Meetings

Barton is one of the Blues happier away hunting grounds in the NCEL, having won 2 of the 3 games at the Easy Buy Stadium over the last 2 seasons.

There were 2 matches between the two sides at Barton last season, with the home side getting the upper hand in the league encounter in December with a 4-1 win before Frickley got revenge a month later in the league cup with a 1-0 victory. The league match at Westfield Lane last season was a dramatic 1-1 draw which was also the result in that fixture the previous season
