Match Preview – Tuesday 2nd September 2025

The Blues are back in NCEL action as we welcome Liversedge to Westfield Lane for another night under the lights, kick off is at 7:45pm
Blues News
After the new season had seemed to stall with a few poor performances in recent weeks, the Blues kicked back into life to deliver a dominant 2-0 victory at Penistone Church at the weekend.
Whilst it was a huge 3 points, the scoreline doesn’t capture just how strong the Blues were, with a number of clear cut chances going begging that could, and probably should, have made the scoreline much more eye opening.
Nevertheless, the two goals that were managed from Destiny Nnenanya and Luis Afonso-Ferreira were enough to deliver Penistone’s first defeat of the season and a first away win for the Blues under manager Tom Claisse. So a few monkeys off the back.
The victory saw the Blues rise to 7th in the early NCEL table with 3 wins and 3 defeats from the opening 6 fixtures. And it’s a win that will only have sparked confidence in the group as we look to push forward

Our Opponents
It could not be a tougher assignment to keep momentum going however as Liversedge are the visitors to Westfield Lane.
Sedge were one of the two sides relegated into the NCEL from the NPL last season and are favourites to make an immediate return in the eyes of many after a busy summer of rebuilding left them with a very strong squad for this division.
After a relatively steady start to the season, they have found their feet and are currently on a 5 match winning streak in all competitions, only losing once so far this season in the league, a 2-1 defeat away at Handsworth.
They site just above the Blues in the league table in 4th and will be looking to continue a push towards the top of the table. They were also victorious at the weekend, picking up a 2-0 victory over Horbury Town. So this looks set to be another very tough examination of this Blues side.

Previous Meetings
The two sides have never met in the NCEL before. This will be a first meeting since the season that saw the Blues relegated from the NPL, where Sedge recorded a league double on their way to the NPL Division 1 East Title, winning 2-0 in both the home and away fixtures.
From a Blues perspective, the most famous meeting came in the FA Cup during the 2018/19 season, with the Blues winning the game 10-1. The match was the highest winning margin in the FA Cup that season and saw the Blues get a mention in the FA Cup final programme as a result.
